"Monday Night Antihoot, 1/10/2011, Venus Flytrap, Susan Hwang, Sweet Soubrette"

On Friday, I made it for all of Venus Flytrap II, Bernard King's epic assemblage of an all female bill. It was a nice night with many good performances, but the acts that stood out to me were the ones, I think, with which I was most unfamiliar. In particular I liked Julian and the Lopez Dispensers, which featured Julian Lopezmat the center of a three piece group (piano and electric guitar). Some of their tunes, I thought, seemed almost to have an underlying feel of cowboy songs, yet many of them also rocked. Julian was impressive as a singer and frontwoman. I look forward to hearing more from them. - Sidewalk's Sidewalk

"UNSIGNED REVIEW- JULIAN AND THE LOPEZ DISPENSERS"

One of the first thoughts that crossed my mind when hearing Daly City was that “this band would fit perfectly in the Weeds soundtrack”. Why? Julian and the Lopez Dispensers play folksy, blue grass soul of sorts, giving them that laid back sound closely associated with stoners. By no means is this meant to be a negative remark, however. Daly City is very easy going and relaxing as it plays through its five calming tracks. Listening to Julian and the Lopez Dispensers is like picking up a Long Island Ice Tea and laying out on a lawn chair during a nice Spring day. It’s a surprisingly visual experience, playing out images in your head of leaves rolling and sun shining. It’s pretty clear that country also plays a heavy influence on this group, but not so much so that they would really fall into that genre listing. Daly City may not be something our normal readers will blast out their car stereo or show off to their friends, but it could easily become one of your guilty pleasures during a lazy afternoon. Julian and the Lopez Dispensers really know how to take the edge off. (Stream “Daly City”) – by Nathaniel Lay - LMP Music Press

Bio

Dispensers began in 2010 as folk trio, Julian & the Lopez Dispensers. Over the past couple of years, they have gone through various lineups and styles until now. They dropped their lengthy name and have found their style; a blend of indie pop, dance and soul with blaring synths and swelling guitars.

In the band's short history, they have played to packed houses at a wide range of Brooklyn and NYC venues, some esteemed and some not so much. They have charmed crowds at dives in Long Island such as Mr. Beery's as well as the clubs of Manhattan, such as City Winery. They have also released two EP's.

In late January of 2012, the band headed to the studio for three days to record their newest collection of songs for their new 3-song, self-titled EP.
