Face Melt-A-Thon: Dissent And Revolt
Club 770, 9:30, Free*
Madison's Dissent And Revolt has been crafting lean, harsh songs from the skeletons of metal and hardcore, some of which are available on its MySpace page, and a short demo CD. Charred-throat vocals, tempo shifts, and a simple lineup (guitar, bass, drums) shift the songs between enraged and ominous. As the name implies, the band's lyrics focus on pissed-off politics, as on "Surveillance Vengeance," which batters home the drama with a guitar that alternates between chugging bottom-end and creepy, warped melodies. Also playing: N.A.M., Buried Future, Repeated Trama. - The Onion

...The A.V. Club took some notable local tracks from 2007 and handily arranged them into mini-soundtracks for assorted activities...
For drowning out the annoying hippie in the room while echoing his basic sentiments:
Dissent and Revolt, "Adore the Tulpas"
If some New Age-y chatter about the Hindu/Tibetan/cryptozoological concept of "tulpas" is slowing the rally down, the subject at least gives you an excuse to switch on "Adore the Tulpas," which, like most of Dissent and Revolt's songs, rips itself apart with rage while pushing the band toward stripped-down math-metal.

Several steadily hyped (and deserving)
bands dominate this local bill, the year's most solid and diverse so far...Dissent and Revolt's political metalcore and The Pistols at Dawn's stripped-down surf-rock hold up the show's rougher edge. - The Onion-AV Club

Starting up the show: Dissent and Revolt, a four piece hardcore/metal band from Madison. These guys have a very technical and busy style, with a steady onslaught of guttural vocals and chaotic winding rhythms. Dissent and Revolt still remains a very raw and turbulent sound, dripping with unpolished political angst. Members include: Aaron Miller on vocals, Chris Schultz on guitar, Greg de Roussan on bass, and Greg Fruit on drums.
A few songs Dissent and Revolt played were: "Servants Erupt," "Upbringer" (which had an almost funk sub rhythm), "The Absorption" (a new song with ultra fast rhythms, dischord, and harmonics), and "Dripping From Our Tongues."

Dessert-Dissent and Revolt
11:10-until ?
If Dissent and Revolt were a dessert they'd be Baked Alaska. Served at your table, on fire, with actual flames coming off your cake. They're the best way to finish off a long night of musical feasting: Loud, aggressive, relentless. Remember to wear your bib because you'll be drooling like a baby when they're done. - Justin Jahnke

Darren's Review - I've been listening to Dissent and Revolt for quite some time now. What really caught my attention about this band was what they deliver live. Having experienced many shows - few match the intensity, sheer power and energy of a Dissent set. They found a way to instill that happy feeling within that reminds me why I adore music so much. When I got word the five song demo was going to be released, I was grinning from ear to ear. Having cited Dillinger Escape Plan and Necrophagist as influences, Dissent finds a way to put their unique spin on some fuckin' heavy and hardcore beats. This five song demo does an excellent job showcasing the bands talent and creativity. One of a kind vocals delivered by Aaron Miller that mimics an instrument itself. The instrumental representation is tight and powerful. The demo tunes were recorded at two points in time (winter 2006/summer2007) so there is some slight variances in the sound recording. All five tracks are genius but I would have to give my nod to "Dripping from our Tongues" and "Servants Erupt." I cannot wait to see what comes next with this band - and I hope they find a way to embrace longevity. Live, one of the better bands I have ever seen. Preview some tunes on their myspace page - but better yet, go see them live - you will thank me later.
