Dissidence - Demo - 2003 - Self-Produced

While I try to formulate my own opinions about a release, and try not to use much of the promo/hype material that comes with each release that I get to review, I have to admit that I totally agree with what came with Dissidence's album. That said, here is my take...imagine NoFX meeting Metallica. That is exactly what Dissidence brings to the table on their debut 3-song demo. From the opening track "Bad Intentions," you're slammed with a metal guitar intro that sets you up for the whopper you're gonna swallow. "Bad Intentions" is just over two minutes long, but it contains everything you want, NoFX vocal stylings, metal soaked guitars and hard pounding drums. The fellas don’t stop there, "Fight" comes right back to the NoFX sound, but with more aggressive guitars. Dissidence is really great that they sound like a souped up NoFX; I'd hazard to say that they sound more like NoFX than NoFX. Can that be possible? Is that blasphemy? I don't care, these guys are good. Now, mind you I said they SOUND like NoFX, the lyrics are closer to something that Bad Religion would write about. This demo is a kick ass release that shows why Dissidence is so popular all over the net, on all the download sites. Go out and support the band, pick up a copy of the demo. Hopefully they can raise some cash and produce a full-length album really soon. I'm really excited to find out what the result of a full-length could bring for such an amazingly talented and awesome sounding band. -MG
