Songs ranked by total plays. Bullets appear on songs gaining plays or remaining flat from previous week. If two songs are tied in total plays, the song with the larger increase in plays is placed first. Songs below No. 15 are moved to recurrent after 20 weeks on the chart. Descending songs below No. 10 are moved to recurrent after 52 weeks on the chart. Most Added is the total number of new adds officially reported to R&R by each reporting station or by automatic add thresholds for stations not allowed to report adds. Songs unreported as adds do not count toward overall total stations playing a song. Most Increased Plays lists the songs with the greatest week-to-week increases in total plays.

"INDIE Vision Music Review"

It’s 8:30 a.m. I’m on my way to work. I’m tired. Why don’t I ever get to sleep before midnight? My half-caf venti raspberry mocha is freshly secured in my cup-holder. Starbucks, coffee for people who don’t like coffee. The sun is shining. The snow is melting. Life is good. But something’s missing. Music. I need music. I slide this new EP I found in my mailbox yesterday into the CD player. Crank up the volume. I’m big on first impressions. As the music starts, I notice my grip is tightening on the steering wheel. My foot is pressing harder on the gas pedal. Both are very good signs. Not only do I stand a better chance of making it to work on time… I like these guys. A lot. And so began my introduction to Distal, a 5-piece modern rock outfit hailing from Edmond, Oklahoma and their 5-track EP, “Tomorrow May”. These guys play good solid modern rock along the lines of Chevelle meets 10 Years. Lot’s of heavy. Lot’s of power. Pleading vocals with a nice rough edge. Distorted guitars that are given plenty of time to roam throughout the songs. Sometimes content with a gallop. Sometimes a wailing solo sprint. Bass that’s thick and in your face with plenty of groove.

Drums. Where do I start? The drums were a major high point for me throughout the CD. It’s nice to hear a guy that’s just feeling the song and not afraid to let himself out of the box a bit. Check out “What I Heard” and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. Now I realize that the drummer on the EP was a sit-in and the band has since found a full-timer… but I would assume that the new guy’s got the chops to meet the beat. Lyrically, there are spiritual undertones throughout the EP, but nothing really blatant. Take the opening track, “Denver is Burning”, for example, “All the buildings around me / are giving me words to speak / cause my hands are receiving / and my eyes are believing / say the name.” What name? They leave that up to your imagination. The impression that I got was that they were almost trying too hard with their lyrics and ended up sacrificing some of the message for the sake of creativity. Standout tracks were “What I Heard” and “This Time Around (Tabula Rasa)” which are both just great rock songs with heavy rhythms and catchy choruses.

Overall: This is a good solid release. Everything from the production to the packaging is first rate. So if you’re looking for some heavy modern rock to shake the cobwebs out of your head in the morning, look no further. Distal’s “Tomorrow May” is for you. Buy it. Play it. Love it. (8.5/10)

"TUNELAB MUSIC CD Review"

Distal is a four-piece Christian rock act whose stompin' ground is Edmond, Oklahoma, located 20 minutes north of Oklahoma City. The band already carries a full length under its collective belt in the form of 'Reside'. In addition, Distal has rocked the stage alongside the likes of Sick Puppies, Red, Skillet, and Rev Theory to name a few. In fact it was my randomly stumbling upon a Rev Theory tour poster that led me to Distal, their band name gnarly enough to warrant my intrigue. After a pass through their MySpace player, I took a liking to what I heard, and pursued a chance to review their most recent effort, 'Tomorrow May'. Produced by Craig Alvin and Daniel Chrisman, this five song EP is available on Distal's MySpace.

The Good:

Distal puts a spin on their brand of modern rock on 'Tomorrow May', toying with several other venues of the rock spectrum for a pleasurable result. "Denver is Burning" billows with a low-profile sizzle, while the big, succinct cracks of its accentuation keep you alert and on your toes. Vocalist Jordan Mills drinks from the Brett Hestla fountain, the rustic feel of his voice and song as a whole a pleasing homage to Virgos Merlot. The brooding title track "Tomorrow May" is rounded out by a chugging bass and a modest drum backbeat. Distal echo a band called Celebrity here, the sounds of shoe-gaze galvanizing the song with dynamic bravado. Sprightly and springy, "What I Heard" is buoyed by a synergy of dualistic guitars, paving out ethereal verses and hammering choruses. The real conductor of "What I Heard" is its bass-line, steering it forward in a happy-go-lucky frolic. "What I Heard" grows into its own toward the end, as Distal flawlessly tames a blaze of sonic guitars and pounding drums with airtight precision. In the context of 'Tomorrow May', "Static" is a character that often changes suits. An ever-evolving potpourri number, "Static" is a sparkling lyrical powerhouse bolstered by remixed hip-hop drums that add a unique twist. "This Time Around (Tabula Rasa)" is all about drummer Brandon Lopez. Lopez's impressive work is the staple of this frisk, sporty tune. Sleek and soaring choruses couple with spry verses, enabling each part of the song to stand out for a more assertive kick.

The Bad:

At five songs short, there's little room for error, and Distal makes sure to respond. Despite such a brief, dynamic-killing length, the flat midsection of "Static", and a sometimes overpowering bass, 'Tomorrow May' sets quite a tone for Distal.

Bottomline:

I'm glad I hunted down Distal's 'Tomorrow May' EP, because I bagged a good one. Although not quite ready to make the jump, Distal is on the cusp of playing with the big boys. The band boasts a hearty persona for itself in only five tracks, so imagine what the dudes could do with another LP of eleven or twelve. Ironically, if you're in need of a new band who gives dorky modern rock a little bad-boy attitude, then Distal's 'Tomorrow May' EP is your go-to. - TUNLAB MUSIC

REVIEWS of "Tomorrow May EP"

Distal Tomorrow May (EP) ©2007 independent

Blaring, blistering, crunchy, and in your face is what describes Distal's EP, "Tomorrow May". The sonic quality of this finely produced short album is excellent, nicely mixed with the vocals lying prominentlyover a bed of hard rock. They are poised to grab attention.

Of the five songs, the ones that stuck out most were the title cut, "Tomorrow May", and "This Time Around (Tabula Rasa)". The sound is fluidly consistent throughout.

EP's can be great for giving you a taste of a band or an artist. I just prefer a whole slice of pie. For that matter, give me that whole pie! Here is hoping more things are in store in their future.
