Forgiving and forgetting is easy to say, harder to do. So why not sing about it?
“Those you trust sometimes let you down, and it can take a long time to allow yourself permission to feel it and walk through the pain that results from these let downs. The concept of just forgiving and forgetting sometimes does not allow for that. I needed to work it out, not just push it under the rug,” shares Di (“Dee”) Thomas, who’s just released her debut CD entitled Forgive & Forget.
The independent effort is a personal collection of 11 songs penned by Thomas, and brought to life by producers Dario DeCicco and Terry Brown, and a handful of local musicians.
Her sound — driven by pianos and clean, haunting vocals — is clearly folk and acoustic rock-based much like that of her influences Sarah McLachlan, Jewel and Chantal Kreviazuk. Her musical journey has been two decades in the making.
“You have to have a picture in your mind of where you want to be then just do the work to get there,” says Thomas. “When you remove all the fear about doing something big or difficult, all that is left is the steps you need to take to get you there.”
With media and fan buzz gaining momentum (her Myspace has nearly 18,000 hits), the 34-year-old doesn’t have a problem getting people to perk up.
Recalling an in-store performance by Jann Arden at Chapters years ago, Thomas decided to try her luck with landing a gig at the bookstore.
“I just walked in with a demo and asked. My timing was good since they were thinking of doing a similar gig with a new artist. And there I was. Sometimes you just have to ask,” says Thomas.

Hello Everyone! I could write a standard third party bio here but that would go against my own philosophy about what makes for good music and wouldn’t show the true nature of this album… all the songs on the album are written from personal experiences or observations in and around my life… things that I wanted to share with everyone :) Having said that I should tell you a little about myself… I am a singer/songwriter musician from Toronto, Canada. I’ve been singing and writing music on piano and guitar since I was 14 but have really gotten serious about performing my own music in the last few years ... The journey to this point has not always been easy but I have to say that each experience good and bad have been exactly what I needed to propel me to this point… my very first CD!! I truly hope you will enjoy this collection of songs full of catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics. Thanks to everyone involved in the CD and all the fans that have supported me… present fans and those to come. I love you all!
