"Dividing Face at Quaker Steak and Lube"

On a gorgeous spring evening in Richmond Virginia, Dividing Face www.facebook.com.dividingface & http://www.reverbnation.com/dividingface lit up the night and rocked the faces off the patrons that
showed up for the opening night of Bike Night at the Quaker Steak and Lube.

Members Garrett Lamb (Lead Vocals), Sonny Mao (Lead Guitar), George Odom (Drums), and Dan Geddie
(Bass) took the stage and played to a crowd of about 200 or more bikers and their friends along with others that showed up at the popular venue.

Beginning in 2011 these guys have been working the way any band just getting started should, they have been burning up and down the roads of Richmond and the East Coast getting their name out as best
they can, writing their own tracks and working as hard as they can to produce a sound all their own.

The night started out with some covers such as “TNT”, Harder to Breathe”, “Rockin In the Free World”, “Man in the Box”, and “Folsom Prison Blues”, to which if I hadn’t known any better Garrett was so close to sounding like a younger Johnny Cash that I had to stop and listen even more.

While interacting with the crowd the best way they could (which was somewhat hard with Harley’s and Crotch Rockets running back and forth in front of the stage), the guys were commanding the stage as
they always do and getting the crowd to respond to their sound.

After a brief beer intermission the guys came back with another set of covers such as “Wanted Dead or Alive”, “Aint No Sunshine”, “House of the Rising Sun” among a few others. During the intro to “Wanted
Dead or Alive”, Sonny brought out the Acoustic and sent chills up and down a lot of the ladies spines cause you could hear them scream “OOOOH We Love this Song” and they all sang along to every word, the end of set two was “Dream On” and I will have to tell you this is where Garrett and Sonny showed that they gel so well together on the stage, standing back to back, Sonny slaying the guitar like Joe Perry all the while Garrett giving you his vocal range just like Steven Tyler would.

Although the night was mostly cover songs they did have some of their originals mixed in that they are still working on streamlining such as “Pick your Poison”, ”Starting Over”, and “Divided We Stand”.
Dan is the newest member to the group and you can see and tell that he is still getting used to the cohesiveness between the trio of Garrett, Sonny and George although over the past few shows we have seen them at he does seem to be coming into his own and he is definitely a beast behind the Bass but I would love to see him have a little more enthusiasm and interact a little bit more with the fans which I am sure once he gets more comfortable he will.

We have been kind of stalking these guys ever since they became Dividing Face, we met Garrett when he was with a different band and we knew from the moment we met him that it was just something about his Charisma, his poise and just overall the way he carries himself on a stage that we had to follow, He demands attention and deserves to be the front man he is today with these just as talented guys behind him. His vocal range is so deep and melodic that you can feel everything he sings and he shows so much passion for what he presents to the masses that come to see them.

Sonny Mao is a great guitarist that when he plays you can always feel and see the passion he has to perfecting his craft. George Odom can beat you down with his talent on the drums and I know this night
was no exception although he didn’t seem as charismatic as I have seen him in the past.

These guys are very appreciative to their fans and they have definitely been gaining ground lately, they came in second place in the Battle of the Bands to open up for Buckcherry (I think they should have won, but the band that did win the opportunity kind of stacked the deck against the better band), they also support the men and women of the military by given a small portion of their ticket sales to the Wounded Warrior Project, along with that they are also playing a show in June to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation ( http://www.stbaldricks.org/ ) Charity event where proceeds from the sales of their tickets will go to the foundation along with to a lady they met at one of their shows in North Carolina by the name of Erika Tinney who shaved her head and is trying to raise $1,000 to give to the foundation as well.

We caught up with some of the Military members after the show, Rob Rochet (Air National Guard) from Richmond, Raul Holquin (Air Force) from Phoenix Arizona, and “The Jersey Shaw Brothers” all from New Jersey, John Shaw (Marines), Joseph Shaw (Marines) and Ron Shaw who has been in every branch of the military except the Navy, they all loved the show and have been fans of the band ever since they knew Sonny and from what we found out tonight has been a while cause they all saw him perform at his High School Talent show and they all said they knew Sonny had what it takes to be in “The Big Time.”

This band is one that needs and deserves more than just local support, they are working tirelessly to gain ground, they have 15 original tracks recorded that they are trying to make sure they sound right before putting their stamp on it, and from what I was told they will be heading to Florida towards the end of the year to finally put their sound on CD.

All Access Magazine has always been a huge supporter of Local Music and keeping local music alive as long as I have had the pleasure of working with them, and if this review sounds a little biased then so be it, but I honestly hope to see big things in this bands future. If they continue down the hard working road they are on then the sky is literally the limit and if you give them a listen you can truly understand what I hear and judge for yourself.

Thanks guys for having us out and I have all the faith in the world that if you guys keep it up you will get to where you want to be.
