Bio
Every since his first gig at a basement party in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago in the Fall of 1987, DJ Al has been labeled as a multi-faceted DJ with a penchant for giving listeners music they want while also challenging them to broaden their appreciation for different types of music. Over the years, Al has acquired a taste for a variety of musical genres ranging from hip hop, R&B, house, jazz, reggae, rock, etc... Al started spinning when the Chicago House Music scene exploded and during the infant stages of what many call hip hop’s “Golden Era”. Ironically, both of these genres are based on music Al was exposed to at an early age by various relatives and neighbors. This exposure helped him develop a deep respect for the old and new and is also the reason Al has been requested to supply music for dusty stepper’s sets and retro parties as well as hip hop/R&B club sets. Al has been affiliated with various promoters over the years and has gigged at a number of schools (NIU, Aurora University, Governors State University), as well as a number of clubs (Riviera, Mr. G’s, Union Hall), not to mention hundreds of private functions (weddings, family reunions, birthday parties, fundraisers, office parties, etc). Al’s most recent club stint was for Urban Connections’ Total Tuesdays Comedy Show at the Estate hosted by comedian Leon Rogers. This showcase was a smashing success running from April 2003 to February 2005. Besides spinning, Al also plays keyboards in an R&B band (Urban Sound Tree) and is an aspiring producer and songwriter.
