DJ Brandon Shabazz

Growing up in the San Francisco area, Brandon was exposed to different varieties of music at an early age. Michael Jackson: Off The Wall, being one of the first pieces of music he bought at the age of 8. When he was younger DJing at family events was what he liked to do most. Playing Motown, from the 60’s to the 70’s; entertaining and learning to read his audience very early on.
One of Brandon’s biggest influences is singer/songwriter, Prince. During the 80’s, Prince’s style changed; adding more Rock guitar. Whatever Prince listened to, Brandon would listen to as well. Many of the artists being The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Led Zeppelin, James Brown and Joni Mitchell. Until his teen years, all Brandon listened to was R&B. Junior High was when he started hanging out with a different crowd, exposing him to different array of music. Van Halen, Culture Club, Wham!, and Duran Duran just to name a few. He often found himself scanning through every station on the radio; stopping and listening to everything from Classic Rock, Old School Hip Hop, Country, Jazz and even Classical.
Becoming a young adult, DJing was a career path that he knew would not be acceptable to his parents. Around 22 he started his own family, that being his main focus at the time. In 2007, he decided to get up and move to the Austin, Texas Metro area. After settling he tapped into a lifelong dream that had never really been fulfilled. Once his daughter neared completion of high school, he realized now would be the time to start his passion, his goal. 2009 was when he began the process of amassing state-of-the-art- DJ equipment. By 2011, he was already DJing at Bars, Clubs, High School events, Modeling events, Corporation Holiday Parties, Restaurants, Graduation Parties and House Parties.
Brandon’s skill and number one goal when it comes to DJing is entertaining his audience and giving each mind, body and soul in the room exactly what they want to hear. Although he has not had 20 years of DJ experience, he’s had a lifetime of experiencing and appreciating the different cultures, lifestyles and genres of music. From his teenage years to adult life now, much of his money has been spent on music, concerts and of course his biggest inspiration, Prince. As of now, he has about a thousand cd’s with mixtures of vinyl. Brandon has embraced the new DJ technology, rather than DJ with vinyl. He has amassed over 20,000 legal mp3’s, spanning music from the 1950’s to present time.
‘Events Your Way’ is not just his logo; it’s his sense of direction. Focusing on the clients and playing what you (the audience) wants to hear. At the end of the day, the event is being done your way.
