DJ Dummy

Dummy is an unlikely name for a mastermind, yet DJ Dummy does not live up to his name, when it comes to the turntables by any means. This Battle/Club/Concert DJ, who adds musical director and producer to his resume, hails from Brooklyn, New York. Dummy grew up with the DJ influence everywhere, his father, brother, and cousins all Djed; as a result he was on the turntables by the age of 7.

In 1991, people took notice when the then 14-year old djing genius held his own on the stage of the Supermen DJ Battle. One of the premier events in the battle circuit, the Supermen DJ Battle hosts big names such as Mix Master Mike, Steve D, and DJ Eightball. His early '90s performance began to establish Dummy's name within the industry and jump-started his career. During his time DJ battling, this original member of the infamous Tape Kingz, won the New York Regional DMC Battle ('98), American DMC Battle (3rd – '98), and the Zulu Nation Battle (2nd – '96).

DJ Dummy’s success in the battle circuit made an impression within the hip-hop community and solidified the fact that he was a talent to be reckoned with. He not only had the innate understanding of the actual skill of djing, but also the uncanny ability to excite a crowd of any size. This ability and his flawless capacity to recreate the DJ live on stage, has attracted many of hip-hop’s premier artists. Through the years, Dummy has worked closely on creating stage shows and/or djing tours/concerts for Common ('99- ), Talib Kweli ('02- ), De La Soul (2005), Kanye West ('04), Music Soulchild ('04), Mos Def ('01), A+ ('99), DMX ('98-'99), Onyx ('98-99), Das Efx ('98), All City ('98), Trigga the Gambler ('96-'98) Smooth tha Hustler ('96 -98) going all the way back to Group Home (1995-96).

Its no surprise that DJ Dummy’s rare talent to excite any type of crowd makes DJing parties his favorite thing to do. Dummy analyzes and studies the crowd to understand their vibe; he has successfully made “turning the party out” a science. If you didn't catch him in '07 on XM's The City, you can find him guest appearing on radio shows across the globe. Throughout his solid career, Dummy has electrified numerous clubs and has toured internationally, entertaining clients such as LeBron James, Shaquille O'neil, Venus Williams, the NBA, NFL Pro Bowl, L-R-G, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Red Bull, MAGIC, Nike, Hennessey and Ryan Kenny to name a few.

DJ Dummy has been djing professionally for 17 years and has seen the development of djing as an art to an occupation, yet DJs have been under-appreciated and under-managed. It was from that knowledge and the belief that the DJ is the heart of hip-hop, that he started 12 Inch Assassins in 1996. 12 Inch Assassins was created to provide the hip-hop community with the most talented DJs for parties, nightclubs, concert series, tours, studio production, lighting, and talent showcases.

Over his career, Dummy's absolute love for music has lead his interests to production. Just like his unique talent on the turntables, he has brought a distinctiveness to his music. He has been able to capture an innovative sound that he’s ready for the world to hear. The talented producer runs his own music production company and studio, Them Cats Productions and Soul Source Music, respectively. Some of DJ Dummy and/or Them Cats Productions' credits include Right Now (Kim Hill '05), Food – (Common '05), Chi City (Common '05), Blood of a Champion movie score ('04), Club Hater (Diabolic '02), Street Music -Enuff's “The Streets” Mixtape (Colocus '02). He has also worked with Dru Hill, Raheem DeVaughn, and Charisse Rose of Changing Faces.

Dummy is currently the Music Director for Common, producing for Them Cats, and is sponsored by Red Bull. Also, DJ Dummy is tour DJ for J. Cole.
