Though the commercial impact and influence of urban music is huge in this country, there are few ways in which the peeps bringing it to your ears are acknowledged. The Stylus DJ Awards put the spotlight squarely on the DJ for the first time, with top talents being honoured in categories including Club, Radio Mixshow, College Radio and Turntablist. The excitement builds from the night before, with DJs from across the country -- including Winnipeg's DJ Fin-S who is Canada's first official DVJ, Halifax's RS Smooth, Montreal's Lil Thunder and T.O.'s own Starting From Scratch -- rocking the pre-party at Lot 332, 332 Richmond W.
The event will start with DJ Fin-S's Live Video Mix Show and a Stylus intro. The video mix show has been rumoured to include clips from Juice (the movie) and several videos. He will be mixing live on the DVJ-X1's and preproduced the set components at Platinum Gold Media.

Performer DJ Fin-S, who is nominated for Regional DJ of the Year, will showcase his skills on the wheels of steel by incorporating DVD scratch visuals with his live video mix show which has been making waves North and South of the border. Toronto's DJ Dopey, who can be seen and heard on the hit television program MTV Live and who was recently inducted into the DMC World Championships Hall of Fame, is nominated for Turntablist of the Year.

Urbnrg Records held a press conference last night and the press release was titled "Welcome to the Future DJ". When I continued to read the release I was shocked to see that DJ Fin-S was the DJ that the label was speaking of.
My shock was primarily because Fin-S is the DJ of now without a doubt. For the last five years or so he has performed at every major event in Canada that is available to a DJ from Winnipeg and he has made noise in the South.
He is now the "Future DJ" because he and the label have embraced a new technology that few have the budget, knowledge or time to commit to. This new technology is mixing video exactly like a DJ mixes audio. For those of you that haven't heard Fin-S, he is one superb audio DJ so to add the video contingent is a massive leap forward.
At the press conference JamCo, Urbnrg Records' President said, "Video DJing is the future. It is undeniable. Fin-S and I have embrassed the future. By combining Urbnrg and the best at Platinum Gold Media we have created a truly superior show."
Fin-S has already showcased the video mixing at the Night Club & Bar Show in Las Vegas, at Studio 54 in Las Vegas and has performed in locations such as Toronto, North Carolina and Western Canada.

DJ Fin-S has been doing what should be done for years now. Born in Winnipeg, Canada and raised in Jamaica, the young Fin-S started DJing at the age of 13. When he moved back to Canada his impact was felt. Pure mixing ability, scratch techniques and world class remixing ability round out all the reasons that Fin-S is one of the top
party rockers in Canada.
To take a look at his resume is to look at a variable list of whose who in the music industry. From the old school of Run DMC to the new school of Ludacris DJ Fin-S has been there in front of bars, clubs and arenas (for a complete list of artists Fin-S has shared the stage with view the end of this bio).
Now at the age of 27 Fin-S has plans bigger then ever before. With his newly invigorated mash up style (taking two styles of music and merging them into one mix) and his deal with Urbnrg Records the outlook is international.
There is nothing left for him to do in Canada, says JamCo, President of Urbnrg. His style is so fresh and so crowd conquering that it doesnt make sense for him to be held down in a small city such as Winnipeg.
From West Coast to East Coast, competition after competition, Fin-S has rocked Canadian crowds. He is also part of the Outlaw Sound Crew in Baltimore, MA and has seen success in the U.S.
The US market has recently been booking Fin-S more regularly with the now polished DJ Fin-S Live Video Mix Show. Also, 2006 saw Fin-S winning the Stylus DJ Award for Best Regional DJ, the host of the Promo Only Showcase at the Las Vegas Night Club & Bar proclaiming him Rookie of the Year and showcasing his new video show in Canadas capital; Toronto.
