Bio

DJ Journey first put needle to vinyl in the 10th grade when his high school girlfriend granted his birthday wish and bought him a set of Gemini Turntables. Who would have thought that ten years later the company that made the turntables on which Journey perfected his skills would bring him on-board to endorse their products? Along with Gemini, both Adidas and Five Four clothing have this L.A.-based DJ spinning at their events and wearing their sneakers & clothing.

Since setting foot on Western soil, DJ Journey has opened up for music legends like Slum Village, ?uest Love and Wyclef. He has spun with the likes of Pete Rock, DJ Premier and McLyte. Journey is a favorite request when it comes to Hollywood parties, and has provided the music entertainment at various events for MTV, The X-Games and Red Bull. Journey has taken on Vegas and has rocked the Magic Show there for the past three years. He has also made his mark at several top L.A. clubs including Crash Mansion, Blvd 3 and the ever-selective Xenii “Private Society” Lounge.

But long before the endorsements and high profile parties, this Chicago native was catching the attention of the Windy City. By age 19, a small radio station just outside Chicago gave Journey the chance to show off his skills at his first radio gig, WBGE 102.3. Listeners instantly took to his undeniable ability to blend diverse beats and mix musical genres from across the board. “I was always fascinated by the idea of taking different sounds, beats and types of music to create something unheard of,” says Journey.

And the phrase “unheard of” is a common response among club goers and radio listeners when it comes to DJ Journey. The DJ who grew up listening to everything from Rock to Rhythm and Blues in his mother’s living room, started his career working in downtown Chicago spinning and mixing everything from Hip Hop to House music. “I’d be spinning a Hip Hop club on a Tuesday night and get booked for a House music club on a Wednesday night. Those experiences really gave me the opportunity to become versatile and the ability to take on any atmosphere.” When DJ Journey wasn’t at the clubs, his beats and voice were heard across the airwaves where he could be found playing host and DJ on Sirius Satellite Radio’s “The Wax.” But even with the clubs and radio stations in his favor, Chicago proved to be too small for him and the DJ labeled “Chicago’s remix King” made the move to Los Angeles.

The decision to move out West proved to be a positive one and this DJ is a major part of the Hollywood music scene. Most recently Journey hit the turntables at L.A. Direct’s Magazine party, Sunset Tan’s Season Premier Party and Tyrese’s Birthday party. A true fan of style, DJ Journey is always happy to help out at a fashion event. He most recently spun at Ed Hardy’s re-launch party and the famed Randolph Duke’s Oscar after party. Staying true to his radio roots, Journey has worked with Spinderella on her show “Backspin” and hosts his own online radio show called “Wicked Ensembles,” part of Swank Society’s weekly line-up.

When he isn’t spinning at a special event or playing for the airwaves and internet listeners, DJ Journey will most likely be found putting on a show for downtown crowds at L.A.’s Standard Rooftop Bar, mashing and mixing electro in the 80’s room at world famous Vanguard or entertaining Hop Hop lovers at the latest Hollywood craze, Goa.
