Bio

“You don’t even know who KTONA is….” This phrase is often heard on a KTONE mix tape. Well since you don’t know, let me introduce you.

While other kids were trying to master red light, green light, 1-2-3, KTONE could be found mixing his Sesame Street records on an old turntable. Definitely not Star Search but it was his start of an art form that would make him into the man or the DJ he is today. By 7th grade he found himself rapping in a group that won first place in a school talent show, proving that everything that KTONE puts his mind to can be a true success. He then started borrowing his mother’s tapes and albums combining them with his CD collection making personal mix tapes. His taste in music agreed with his friends’ and they began to steal his mix tapes. This eventually led him to steal his own tapes back!

KTONE is a man who believes in keeping family first and why wouldn’t he when his inspiration is drawn from them? His mother encouraged his love for music and most importantly supported his goals. Currently, his wife and 2 sons serve as his main inspiration. Everything he does right now is for not only for his own benefit, but for his children’s benefit as well. They even draw inspiration from him when they visit the studio and experiment with music, dance, and play on turntables displaying the spark that started it all for him.

While most DJ’s can admire DJ Clue’s hustle which shows that DJ’s are as important as artists, KTONE’s DJ inspirations hit closer to home. One being his cousin, Kareem aka DJ Khryminal, who he attributes to being the fuel for his passion. Looking back on a visit in ‘00 K-Tone states “He showed me the real meaning of a DJ.” Upon his return back to college, DJ Khryminal sent KTONE his turntables and its been a wrap ever since. Another favorite of KTONE’S is DJ Jelly who he considers a blend and mix king. His style has had an influence on the blends and mixes KTONE creates. Last, but not least, is DJ Motown out of Blytheville, AR. His style can be compared to DJ Jelly, but he served as a more up close and personal influence due to the fact that he hosted parties when KTONE attended college at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO.

While in school KTONE worked at KJLU 88.9FM, the campus radio station. During his stay at KJLU, he was honored by the Black College Radio Conference as a finalist for On-Air Personality of the year in 2003 and 2004. His station, largely due to his presence, was honored as the Black College Radio Station of the year in 2003. KTONE also interned at St. Louis’ top hip-hop station, Q95.5FM during the summer of 2002 where he produced spots for local events with live broadcast feeds. He has served as an Atlantic Records Urban College Marketing Representative. His duties included marketing Atlantic artists to Lincoln’s campus and building a rapport and brand loyalty on behalf of Atlantic Records. With all the responsibilities KTONE assumed, he still found time to participate as a reporter/editor for Lincoln’s television show “LU Vision” along with promoting campus activities as Director of Public Relations with the Campus Activity Board. In 2003 KTONE graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism leaving his mark on Lincoln’s campus.

Embracing the spirit of entrepreneurship, KTONE founded Still Livin Entertainment (SLE), which provides DJ and promotion services. Since it’s founding in 2002 music enthusiasts in Denver, Jefferson City, MO, Atlanta, GA, Bay area CA, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Florida have all been exposed to KTONE’S innovative style. He has successfully branded himself as the “Turf DJ” and is know all throughout the music industry as such. Due to his reputation preceding himself, KTONE was asked to participate in a DJ panel at the 5th Annual Texas Summer Music Conference (July 2007) where he shared the stage with other well known DJ’s such as: Tony Neal, DJ Drop, TJ Chapman, and Michael “5000” Watts. Only a month after he left Dallas, he returned for the CORE DJ retreat (Aug2007) where he celebrated his induction into this prestigious organization. He currently is a street representative for Ozone magazine and writes the Denver section for rapqwest, keeping the hip hop world in touch with Denver’s growing music scene. As if that is not enough, K TONE is also a member of the Core DJs & Deerty DJs.

So now you know who KTONA is. A man who consistently is on the grind, quick to jump on opportunities that arise, and one who under promises and over delivers every time. He is known for his creative mixing skills and dramatic flare with the turntables which never leaves his fan base feeling he hasn‘t put his all into any project he puts out. Skilled with the ability to analyze any audience presented to him and the ability to quickly adjust, he brings a unique style of spinning and crowd-pleasing beats to all events and activities that he is involved with, proving he is undisputedly a force for the new mille
