Growing up in the Bronx, surrounded by the early pioneers of Hip Hop, DJ Lace was destined to be one of the most recognized and sought-after deejays of his time. When he started deejaying in the ninth grade, he had no idea that God had called him for such a time as this. In his last year of college, Lawrence Stroman gave his life to Christ. In 1999, after a 14-year hiatus from what he had come to know and love, DJ Lace, once again, began to spin. This time, he was doing it a bit differently. The music was different.
It was clean and positive. “I look at deejaying as being a minister of music.”
DJ Lace works as a full-time deejay, performing at church functions, weddings, parties, Christian clubs, and many other events. He also serves as head of the Atlanta’s chapter Higher Ground Record pool. With all that going on, DJ Lace still found time to start the
Mix Club in December 2003 while in Houston, Texas. The Mix Club is an outlet to get music that’s not getting played on the radio into people’s hands. It helps to promote artists, many in which DJ Lace has met at concerts and shows across the country or over the internet. With 145 current members, which includes members in Canada, London and The Netherlands, as well as here in the United States, the Mix Club acts as a tool to hear new music, new artists, unreleased underground tracks, cameo freestyles, or songs that have not yet been released to the public. DJ Lace believes that the club has been a success because it is a God-given idea and it’s unique at the time appointed.
With a blending and mixing style of deejaying, which he describes as a lost art, DJ lace has become quite successful at what he does. His level of experience sets him apart and he hopes to share it with other aspiring deejays. “I have been called to be a teacher to other deejays. DJ Lace spins the hottest positive, life-changing urban music! Growing up in "the boogie down Bronx" in the 70's, DJ Lace experienced the birth of a "Hip Hop Culture". Not knowing that spinning break beats for rappers in the park would later explode into a national phenomenon called "Hip Hop". "I was there with some of the underground pioneers of Hip-Hop...when they just love to express themselves (freestyle) over break beats", stated DJ Lace. Known as Larry D, during the 70's and early 80's, he spun before thousands in NYC’s hottest clubs before leaving for Georgia to attend college. But relocating to the dirty south didn't stop "Larry D" from keeping the party going. He quickly became Fort Valley States most sought after DJ spinning at Frat parties and local clubs. After giving his life to Christ in the early 80's and realizing the destructive impact of negative music, he decided to focus on completing his education. Now, reborn as DJ Lace spinning only positive, life-changing urban music, he trains aspiring DJs and educates youth & young adults about the “true spirit of Hip-Hop”. With the success of Djlace2003.com averaging over 80k visits per month, DJ Lace launched the DJ Lace Mix Club providing an ongoing source for youth and young adults to hear the hottest positive urban music. The mix club features DJ Lace mixing techniques, rare and unreleased track selections, character and passion.
