Bio

New Generation Records was founded by mobile dj, Mike LaBirt, along with brother, Larry LaBirt. Growing up in a house with lots of music, Dad liked jazz and Mom liked soul, music became a big part of their lives. The LaBirt brothers started a mobile dj service and years later, going into 1989, Mike and Larry got into doing production creating tracks and simply getting a feel for production. Larry P. Rauson Jr, Ricci Melillo, Jerry Melillo and there cousin, Joe Ruvolo, came up with some tracks which all compiled to create the very first release titled DJ’s On Vinyl Volume One. Eventually it became a very popular release for New Generation and the series went up to Vol. 7 which was a DJ double pack. After the second release, New Generation Records was picked up by Emotive Records and went on to a very successful P&D deal with Emotive. The name, DJ's On Vinyl, was given to the E.P. because all the tracks are produced by DJ's.
New Generation Records’ big break came when New Generation Records signed Darryl D'Bonneau, who did three tracks for New Generation Records. The first being “More Than Anything”, “Not Just Sunday”, and “Stay” which came out on the subsidiary label K.O.L.A Records. With Darryl D'Bonneau, the success continued with “Stay” being featured in three movie soundtracks “Species”, “One Tough Cop” and “Double Dragon”. These tracks were produced by Larry P. Rauson Jr. who created most of the early releases. The sessions and instruments were performed and engineered by Larry P. Rauson Jr. New Generation Records was also briefly distributed by the late John Robinson's label Nott Us records.
In 2001 there was a split in the New Generation camp with Mike LaBirt parting ways with brother Larry and partner Kevin O. Mike LaBirt took full control of New Generation Records and started a sub label experience recordings . With Kevin O and Larry LaBirt starting Groove N’ Stuff and keeping control of K.O.L.A Records, Mike LaBirt went on to release several releases on New Generation. The new releases included a Jordan Fields EP on Experience Recordings. New Generation also had big success with a Ricky Nelson release, “Give Me Love”, with original mixes by B.O.P. and a Mike LaBirt remix featuring Big Moses of DML studios on keys. Ricci Melillo also returned with another EP Unreel Dubs which still gets great reviews. Although New Generation Records was and is a small operation, the label always managed to make noise in the industry. Another release for New Generation, which made noise, was Letitia B Khalil productions which opened a very big record for New Generation.
Moving into 2004 to 2008, New Genertion hooked up with the legendary diva Kimara Lovelace. Mike LaBirt produced a remake of the classic “Time After Time” which featured mixes by Ricci Melillo, Brothers Vibe and Larry P Rauson does his thing with a luxury mix. The last Vinyl release on New Generation was Dee Holloway “What You Do To Me” produced by Mike LaBirt.
Officially, New Generation Records never went out of business. The label has reorganized Mike, Kevin, and Larry are back together and have formed the New Generation label group. The group looks forward to having new products in the near future for downloads and limited units on Vinyl.
