"international sounds of the future"

Based on his previous work on The Philadelphia Experiment-Remixed and To Six Billion, it’s clear that DJPE (Paul Edwards) strives to create music that defies expectation and categorization.  International Sounds of the Future continues in that tradition featuring an eclectic array of sounds that range from Swedish folk to Chinese poetry to Brazilian samba.  Consider it an aural geography lesson.  This approach is best exemplified on the album’s standout track, “Vivo Sonhando”, which features a beautiful vocal performance reminiscent of Bebel Gilberto against the backdrop of a gentle guitar and a Pete Fountain-like jazz clarinet.  DJPE’s production is complex yet minimal.  It grounds the track with a pulsating bossa nova groove that highlights its somber beauty.  DJPE takes the same minimalist approach with Victor Jara’s tale of tragic love,
“Te Recuerdo Amanda”, and “Padmasana”, the final harmonizing sequence of yoga, which has been appropriately placed at the album’s end.  - OKPLAYER.COM

"Philadelphia city paper"

Paul Edwards (aka Djpe) spent over a year arranging these heavenly downtempo heartthrobbers, which fall somewhere between world music, Brazilica and IDM. Fit for morning listening at the homestead or filling the air at a hipster coffee shop, International Sounds of the Future is a dreamy mesh of Indian ragas, samba, Chinese poetry, folk and nu-jazz atop airy guitars and slow breakbeat rhythms. Each tune features guest vocalists (among them: Orlando Fiol, Helena Espvall and Patricio Acevedo) singing or chanting in various languages. Kick back and relax as Paul Edwards' soothing worldly electronic sounds gently pull you through a refreshing journey around the globe and into the future all at the same time. - Philadelphia city paper
