Bio
DJ REAL is a San Francisco-based alternative musical comedy act. Performing all original songs, complete with costume changes, bad dance moves, and interactive multimedia, DJ REAL’s live act has been likened to the Talking Heads, The Residents, and Steve Martin. With a wide range of influences, DJ REAL’s songs vary from hip-hop, to folk, to the unclassifiable. Beginning in the Connecticut music scene in 2001, DJ REAL moved to the Bay Area, where he has been gaining recognition in San Francisco’s eclectic music and comedy circuits. He was most recently featured in the 2008 and 2009 San Francisco Sketch Festivals, and is a part of the monthly comedy showcase, Things We Made, in San Francisco. DJ REAL has performed on bills with acts such as Adam Green (the Moldy Peaches), Corn Mo (Polyphonic Spree), and Maria Bamford (Comedians of Comedy). He has released four studio albums, a movie, and is currently producing an online video series, “Video Messages for People Who Shouldn’t Care”.
"...Stargu continues to create Real-y funny characters with his quirky dance
moves, crazy costumes, rhymes, beats, pre-recorded voice tracks (sometimes the
voice of God, sometimes his mom)..." - New Haven Advocate
"...The crowd at a typical DJ REAL show should expect the unexpected and
anticipate becoming part of the show themselves!" - WWUH (University of
Hartford)
"With the majority of musical comedy that comes across the line every so
often, it usually seems to lack just that; musical integrity or well, comedy.
In the case of DJ Real's newest release, "Personal Growth," both elements have
risen to the occasion." - The Set List (Sacremento Comedy Magazine)
