"An ElektRemixed State of Mine"

Here we have DJ RNS a successful DJ from the US who's lucky enough to of brushed shoulders with User and Kanye West to name a few.

Known for his hip hop, dance remixes DJ RNS's new album An ElektRemxied State of Mine is a carefully selected set of urban/hip hop tunes delivered through some superb mash ups.

On offer here though we have 2 of DJ RNS's own tracks 'Are You Ready' and 'Tell Da Coppers' which are both a clubbers paradise.

'Are You Ready' leads with a scuzzy techno wave into a Ibiza laser lights performance. The layered effects used in this track add depth and the choppy vocal brings the dance aspect together.

'Tell Da Coppers' is a more vocal track with a chopped echoey lead male. The use of sirens adds to the overall power of the track combining dance and hip hop effortlessly. - the-mag (UK)

"DJ RNS (@DJRNS ) Interview"

Thanks for taking some time out for this interview.

No problem. Thank you for giving me the opportunity.

First and foremost, for those out there who haven't heard of DJ RNS before, where are you from and what do you do?

I’m from the states. Richmond, Virginia to be exact. I am a club/mixtape DJ, Producer, Remixer and Graphic Designer. I have been DJing for about 15 years now and I just started getting back into producing and remixing tracks.

Who are your five biggest musical inspirations?

Hmmm, that’s a hard question to answer. There are so many artists that have inspired me musically. Since I can only pick 5, I would say Quincy Jones, Parliament Funkadelic, Notorious BIG, Michael Jackson and Prince. See, my dad has a very eclectic taste in music and he listens to all genres. So growing up I was exposed to all types of music, instruments, sounds, etc. My dad could be playing a Steely Dan song one minute, listen to a Miles Davis track next, then switch to Digital Underground lol. I definitely get my love for music from my dad.

Your new album, An ElektRemixed State of Mine, is available for free download now. What was the concept behind the project and what can people expect to hear?

The concept behind An ElektRemixed State of Mine was to take tracks from a few of the top hip-hop artists out now and mash up their vocals over electronic influenced dance beats. The electronica music is something that I fell in love with last year and decided to work on making a name for myself in the dance world. You can expect to hear some of the hottest rappers over dance tracks produced by me all blended into one continuous mix. I threw in a few little skits just for fun. Honestly this project was more an experiment than anything. I wanted to put something out to see what the response would be and so far it has been very positive.

You've done some pretty massive tours in the past, including supporting Usher and Kanye West, but if you could support anyone, who would it be?

Another good question! I would love to support any artist that is all about putting on a REAL show or performance like Kanye West, Jay-Z, Common, Mos Def, Lil Wayne, just to name a few. I’d even like to support a few DJ’s like Steve Aoki, David Guetta or Benny Benassi. The crowd’s energy at their shows is ridiculous.

So what's the plan for DJ RNS in 2010 and beyond?

Right now I am working on an EP remix album which I hope to drop early Fall. I have 2 tracks done so far, “The F’in Boss and “Show Me a Damn Good Time” are slated to be on the EP. You can preview and download those tracks on my website for free. I’m also working on doing shows overseas so any promoters out there reading this, lets try and make something happen. Hit me up at info@djrns.com or www.DJRNS.com. Other than that I’ll be promoting and trying to get my music out there.

Any final shout outs?

Yeah, shout out to everyone who has downloaded, bootlegged, copied, uploaded, tweeted, liked or unliked the An ElektRemixed State of Mine album. Even if you have used or are using the CD as a cup coaster, I appreciate you. Shout out to the fans and my So Iregula Team for all the love and support. Thank you WOTB for taking the time to sit down with me and do this interview, I truly appreciate it. Thanks. - Word On The Beat (UK)

"DJ RNS x DJ Aztec - GIRLS <3 GLOW STICKS"

RNS hit us up a month ago and said he had something BIG to put out. Little did we know it would be a bumping 3 hour journey through clubland with almost every electro track you can think of. Check it out and the short interview below.

RVA: DJ RNS, this is an epic set with a ton of music. What was your thought process going into this thing?

RNS: Thanks man, I really appreciate that and I definitely appreciate you taking the time to talk to me about the new mixcd. Well, at first I was just going to make one mix, as a follow-up to my other dance mixes (Iregulectronika Disc 1 & 2), but as I began selecting tracks that I liked, my play list grew to over 100 songs. It was hard for me to narrow them down so I decided to use all of them and make a 3 hour dance mix. It's cool because I made 2 different download options. You can download the full 3 hour mix with no breaks, perfect for a house party or working out at the gym. Or you can download the mix as a 3 disc set, with each track titled and separated.

RVA: You happy with how it turned out?

RNS: Yeah most definitely, I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I worked real hard on this mix to make it as perfect as possible. I mean of course there are a few things that I wish I could change here and there, but I’m going to always be my worst critic. As long as other people enjoy it I’m happy.

RVA: What tracks or artists are you currently feeling?

RNS; Currently I’ve been playing the new Kanye West album to death along with some 90’s Hip-Hop and R&B. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Dubstep like Skrillex, Datsik and Noisia just to name a few. I’m constantly on Soundcloud just checking out other DJ/Producers from all over the world and there’s a lot of good music out there. You just have to know where to find it.

RVA: You are producing a lot of music on top of everything else. Can you describe the feeling when you see people going crazy over one of your own remixes?

RNS: It’s crazy because I’ve been producing for a while, just more on the hip-hop side. It wasn't until around this time last year when I decided to start making dance tracks, then around April of this year I dropped my first remix project “An ElektRemixed State of Mine”, which I think a lot of people slept on. The feeling I get when I see people go crazy over one of my tracks is one of those ultimate high type feelings, you know. I mean when you put as much love and passion into DJing and making music as I do, and then the crowd gives you that love back, its truly one of the greatest feelings.

RVA: Anyone in town you are trying to work with?

RNS: Man I’m down to work with any and everybody who’s doing dance music right now. I like what you guys are doing with the magazine, the RVALUTION parties and everything else you got going on. I also like what Audio Ammo and PLF are doing. There are a few other people out there that I see are doing big things for Richmond nightlife, which is a very good thing. I hope they keep it going.

RVA: Anyone you want to give props too?

RNS: Yeah, props to everybody in Richmond that’s making music, DJing, throwing parties, creating art and doing whatever they do. Much respect to you and I wish you success. Much love to my So Iregula Team that’s been holding me down since the beginning. And of course props to RVA Magazine for representing Richmond and giving artist an outlet to express their creative skills and talents. I salute and appreciate all of you.

RVA: Where do you go from here?

RNS: Well, right now I’m working with my younger sister, DJ Aztec, on some new dance mixtapes and eventually an EP which we hope to drop spring 2011, so be sure to look out for that. Other than that, I’m in the lab 24/7 so expect to hear more remixes and club bangers very soon. - RVA Magazine
