D’ LYRICIST

BIOGRAPHY

Dantriel “D’ Lyricist” Hill grew up in one of the most poverty and crime stricken areas in New Orleans, the Lower Ninth Ward. In her own neighborhood and many times right outside of her front door, D’ Lyricist would see drug deals, encounter crack addicts, and the constant sounds of sirens from police, fire, and paramedics. Through her humble beginnings D ’Lyricist was able to see firsthand that life wasn’t always the idealistic family scenarios as it seemed to be portrayed on the television screen. At the age of seven D’ Lyricist became a victim to a broken home. Daily she would see arguments turn into fights and tears of laughter fall into the trap of pain. Following the divorce of her parents D’ Lyricist was constantly moved from battered women’s shelters, homes of relatives and friends, and on many occasions homeless sleeping in her mother’s car. However, D’ Lyricist even than was above her own pain. Maintaining an unyielding faith she was graced with her first love that would heal all of her wounds, her music. The more D’ Lyricist surrounded herself with music she soon discovered hidden talents she had within. D’ Lyricist’s craft finally evolved when her distinctive vocal abilities unfolded. In a twist of fate’s plan she met Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers who later became her mentor and the father-figure that she was missing.

“I was dealt the fruit of life, some good and some bad. With the bad I learned from it and used it as a tool to better myself, with the good I used it as a tool to better my people (all mankind). When given the ability to do something, do just that, something!”
