Bio

“When chill turns into hustlin’, when time turns into touchin’, when push turns in to shovin’, when life turns into lovin’, that’s when it begins.”
D. Montrell, the extraordinary gospel artist is blasting off into the gospel music industry and setting a mark with his music and ministry. His debut album, “God Can’t Fail” tells of God’s never ending love while drawing on the influences of today’s R&B and mainstream characteristics. Specializing in “life music,” D. Montrell is bringing a new flavor to gospel music.
Donavan Montrell Thompson was born on June 27, 1982 and raised in and around Geismar, LA. He is the second son and third child of Dr. Leroy Thompson, Sr. and Carolyn A. Thompson, pastor and first lady of Word of Life Christian Center located in Darrow, LA. Growing up as a preacher’s son, he was trained at an early age to work in the ministry. The opposite of the “Preachers Kid” stereotype, D. Montrell never strayed away from the watchful eye of his father and guiding hand of his mother.
He started singing at the age of 13, developing his skills by being apart of the church choir and playing around with studio equipment. He was called to the ministry at the age of 17 and shortly thereafter began touching the lives of youth with his singing and other ministerial gifts.
D. Montrell attended Louisiana State University for a period of time, before becoming a full-time staff member of Word of Life Christian Center where, he currently holds the titles of choir director and assistant youth pastor.
As president of God Ordained Records (“G.O”), D. Montrell is demonstrating that he is a well-rounded artist who knows both parts of the industry. He writes, records, and produces at God Given Studios, the official recording studio of God Ordained Records. The record label’s motto is “GO” which is reflective of Go Ye Into All the World and Preach the Gospel to Every Soul.” It is not just a record label, it is a ministry.
D. Montrell has gained a lot of his experience by traveling with his father during ministry engagements, where he is sometimes asked to sing before his father preaches. He has traveled to many places, in and out of the United States, gaining a large fan base even without the release of his first CD.
Not only has he performed out of state, but he has done many in-state performances around the city of Baton Rouge and Lafayette with World renowned artist such as Zie’l and Da truth. Most of the time, he performs with his back-up singers and also up-and-coming God Ordained Records artists, “The Proteges.” As a minister, D. Montrell uses his musical abilities to accompany the Word of God that he teaches and lives. Introducing D. Montrell.
