"No Country Presents: The Lees of Memory... DNK."

"Pop/rap duo DNK are, without a doubt, one of the freshest and most eclectic acts to emerge from Nashville in recent memory. Comprised of singer David Davis and rapper Kayla Erb, the group’s sound is energetic, endlessly catchy, and unabashedly poppy (think Bruno Mars meets Macklemore). Their self-titled, debut EP is already generating buzz, and, with a sound so polished, and a radio-ready appeal baked in from the get-go, we full expect to see DNK explode into the mainstream very soon. Show up early, so you can say you saw them at Acme first." - No Country for New Nashville

"Music Review: DNK EP"

DNK, the pop/rap group from Nashville, Tennessee has Kayla Erb rapping, David Davis on vocals, Devon Curry on drums, Quentin Flowers on bass, and Peter Ferguson on guitar. They released their 3-track EP on the 31st of March. The EP drop has been much awaited, this being their debut collaboration. Many fans have been on the edge of their seats after seeing many of DNK’s unique mash-ups of top hits like the Roar/Royals or Dark Horse/Holy Grail on their YouTube channel.

What makes this group stand out amongst other groups is that they don’t have the conventional “dude that raps and girl that sings vocals.” Here, it’s kind of a role reversal, and it works. To see that either man or woman can be just as appreciated for their inner talent is pretty progressive. Back to style, Kayla, the rapper of the group, would fit right in, in a place like Capitol Hill in Seattle. She’s got a spunky-hipster style that comes through in the group’s musical medium. More than anything, if you watch their videos you just see a group of talented people having a great time making music; isn’t that what the epitome of music should be? I think so.

DNK has a unique ability to show people that they can switch up the roles and still have a ton of fun making music. Listen to the samples below or just download the 3-song EP for free on their official website here. - SoMuchGoodMusic

Bio

Every so often, we get a chance to see a bit of ourselves in the music  we listen to, and the artists we admire. It's more than the ability to get fans on their feet. It's the ability to not only be radically entertaining, but radically authentic as well. We are proud to present that to you in dnk.

Belmont grads David Davis and Kayla Erb have been at this for a long time. Both being surrounded by 5+ siblings with varied interests, they captured attention by belting out Motown and Jazz classics, performing in church, and always inevitably finding their way to a stage. During their time at Belmont, they both trained in various styles, and experimented with their artistry, culminating in a Senior Recital where David invited his overall-wearing, knitting friend to rap as he sang. After an overwhelming response about their chemistry, they've started a journey together, along with award-winning industry reps and producers.

With a handful of songs written, edgy production, and fortified by a highly experienced band, dnk. has become a force to be reckoned with. Their aim is combining blissful balance of R&B melodies accentuated with catchy pop overtones, that is accessible to all genres of music and types of people. In the year 2014, they performed 150+ show across the country, bringing the party where ever they went. These shows ranged from some of the nations' most renowned venues to industry showcases to outreach events with Anne Hathaway. When not performing, David & Kayla both enjoy what any Nashville citizen usually does: extreme trampolining, knitting, eating, cooking, wine nights and spontaneous adventures.
