Bio
Doc Rogers and the Rock Dodgers was the brainchild of Steve Harrill, accomplished musician and college music professor from the piedmont of North Carolina. Growing up only ten miles from the home of Earl Scruggs, Harrill was influenced by the old time fiddlers and blugrass musicians of western North Carolina. After completeing graduate studies in music and performance, Harril went on to perform with some of the hottest bluegrass bands in the area while teaching music and rasing a family. Family is a big part of this band: Harrill's son Nathan plays guitar and is a fine flatpicker and tenor singer. Cousin Craig Hensly plays banjo, guitar, and sings. The family guys ae joined by fiddler Don burke and Gabby Terxet on Bass. Steve Harrill through his trainig as a formal musician understands quality, virtusity, and performance: "When energy is communicated between the performers and the listeners, then the musician know they have done their job well". As for the name "Doc Rogers and the rock Dodgers", Doc Rogers does not really exist but is a mythical character that the band uses as an object for satire and humor. It is a very clever approach to presenting the music as to engage the audirnce in the persona and image created by the band members. Doc Rogers and The Rock Dodgers are not your run-of-the-mill bluegrass band. TYhis group is really quite unique.
