Bio

In
1982 during a concert by Willy Chirino ( a salsa star at the time) in
full dance floor, a pregnant Guatemalan woman, Flor de Maria Chavez had
to be rushed to the hospital , 5 hours later,  Juan Martnez (aka Doctor
Nativo) opened his eyes for the first time on this planet.

From an
early age, his love for music was obvious, influenced by his father (
Cuban musician Arturito Martinez),he had soaked Cuban Sones, Wawanco
, Mozambique , salsa and many rhythms of Cuban and Guatemalan popular
music.

In
the 90s, during the heyday of "Rock Chapin"  in Xela, Guatemala
(hometown of Nativo) together with a group of young artists , musicians ,
painters, and poets he experimented with different rock bands a
nd made his first national tours playing in bazaars, parks , and local dance saloons.

Eager
to see the world at age 15, Nativo travelled to Europe for the first
time, that journey continued to the distant lands of India , where
backpackers traveling through introduced him to Reggae, which now is
part of his essence.

In
2006 Doctor Nativo moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he became a popular
street artist performing to huge crowds which opened the doors to
perform at
festivals
in Spain , France , Switzerland, Holland and Germany sharing the stage
with artists such as Manu Chao, Ojos de Brujo, Macaco  and appearing on numerous TV , radio , newspapers articles.

In 2012 on the eve of December 21 ( OXALUJUJ BAKTUN ) Doctor Nativo made his great return to "Guatemaya" where he now once again resides and began
a thorough study of ancient Mayan wisdom , meeting his "Ajpop" ( great
leader and spiritual guide TATA PEDRO CRUZ) and its "Ajqij" ( tata
MARTIN ) that lead  to a profound change in his personal, artistic and
spiritual life.

In 2013, Doctor Nativo formed a new band "Los Warrior Candela"  under the musical direction of Danilo Rodrigues (marimba and trombone),

Mayan rappers and percussionists M'che and Tzutu , bass player "el Jose" and Guatemala City drummer Eduardo Santella.

Doctor Nativo's new album "Guatemaya" is currently being mixed.  The album was recorded at Stonetree studios Belize with producer Ivan Duran.
