"DOGGEBI H-TOWN FREE IMPROV"

Doggebi is among the most vital and individual voices within Houston’s burgeoning free-improvisation scene, drawing inspiration from sources as diverse as free jazz, vintage musique concrete and modern electro-acoustics.

"URGE TO SHOUT "MOBY DICK" OR "YYZ""

Experimental groovyness. Yom is a flautist who's recordings can run from the straight up and jazzy to ones that defy your ideas of what a flute should sound like - a wonderful example of the kind of experimental music this city is well known for. - Houston Free Press

Bio

Dogebbi - Michelle Yom incorporates her classical training (M.A. NYU) with a love for improvisation and takes the flute to places most people would never expect. With a range that encompasses the classical and jazz traditions to the more abstract and experimental, it is music that celebrates the versatility of the instrument and the joy of music's communicative embrace. SPIKE The Percussionist (Astrogenic Hallucinauting, morgue city, CoRE: Constructs of Ritual Evolution - Music Director) is a noiz freak who studied under master percussionist Dr. Norman Weinberg and has also taken master classes with Terry Bozzio, Peter Erskine and Kenny Aronoff. Together, the duo goes by the name DOGGEBI - named after a breed of monsters in Korean folklore possessing supernatural powers and a penchant for pulling pranks on humans (transforming themselves into furniture and such). It's an appropriate name for music that overflows with intelligence, energy, and mischievous wit.
