Bio

Dogwood and Dahlia have captivated the Vancouver indie folk scene since their formation in the spring of 2011. Neil Smith (guitar, vocals) and Sydney Thorne (banjo, vocals) started playing together at casual fireside jams and summer camp sing-alongs. They met again at Vancouver East Cultural Centre when they were both accepted into the Ignite! Songwriting Mentorship program and from there the duo formed naturally. From playing in bars before they were legal to be there themselves, to touring Western Canada with two EPs under their belt (“Nice to Meet You” in May 2011 and “The Sea” in December 2011,) Dogwood and Dahlia have expanded their presence in the Vancouver music community. With a release planned for May 2013, the band is excited to meet new people, see new places, hear new music and get people dancing as they tour this summer.
