Bio

Dolly and the Clothespegs are Kennet Delta Folk. We started during a garden party in the summer of 2007, since when the band has been gigging constantly and now numbers between 5 and 13 people. Capable of playing sets of up to 2½ hours, The ‘Pegs are at home playing festival stages, cabaret nights, ale pubs, village fetes, celebrations, parties, fundraisers, conventional venues and down in the woods.

Highlights of the band’s career include touring Ireland in autumn 2009, hosting their own successful cabaret nights, headlining the Reading Beer and Cider festival entertaining hundreds of drunks for 2 1/2 hours, and playing [all night] in a beautiful woodland just outside Bristol.

Kennet Delta Folk is a mixture of folk, skiffle and traditional country that can be beautifully ramshackle, heartfelt and fun. Dolly and the Clothespegs play a range of their own songs, traditional tunes, classic country and reworked pop covers, fronted with gorgeous harmonies and accompanied by a whole lot of whoopin’ and hollerin’. Armed with an arsenal of instruments including (but not limited to) guitars, banjo, ukelele, fiddle, mandolin, accordion, percussion and spoons, the band create a massive sound guaranteed to get the party started and keep it swingin’ til dawn.

The band’s favourite compliments to date include being barred from playing in our favourite local pub for attracting 3 times the capacity of the venue; being told that we’re still the best live band in town though not as good as we once were now we sound professional; and getting asked back to everywhere we’ve enjoyed playing.

Dolly and the Clothespegs are continuing to broaden their horizons beyond the Kennet Delta, and working towards a summer playing the festival circuit in 2010. So catch us on the run. Offer us a gig, and we may make a break your way.
