Don Cazz

Darnell Douglas, who performs as Don Cazz, is an American Rapper and songwriter from Detroit Michigan. His raps are mostly in reference to the street life and struggles of a lower class family. Something he was exposed to from birth. He took to rapping as a medium to express himself and as a way to make good of his artistic talent, while finding a way to make his life and that of his family’s’ better Don Cazz was moved to Atlanta by his mom at a very young age to escape the gang culture that proliferated the streets of their neighborhood in Detroit. Despite the act to salvage his exposure to such, the street life of Atlanta(which he constantly reps in his tracks as “Nawfside”) attracted his young mind and he indulged in all the stereotypical endeavors of a young underprivileged male in the streets. Around the age of 17, Don took the gang activities, drugs, violence, injustice, and oppression he was exposed to/involved in, as a means telling stories to whoever would listen. He wanted to be the voice of the Northside and help raise awareness to the street struggles and find a way to put himself in a better position to do good, instead of immersing himself further in the bad. “The streets make you a man. They make you a monster. It really isn’t your fault because its what you’re exposed to as a kid, and you really don’t know otherwise, but it gets to a point where you get a little enlightenment about what’s good and what’s bad. At that point, you decide. You can either get lost in the madness, or put your experience to use and device means of helping the young generation. My goals are to spread knowledge, raise awareness, and help make lives better.” Says Don in an interview with Hip Morning
