ALGOMA /SONGWRITERS

Dear Mr. Charbonneau

I was pleased to be in attendance at your concert where you performed with your band The Lost Guides at Agawa Park in Lake Superior Provincial Park during August 2004.
Your performance for the capacity crowd was engaging. All in attendance appeared to enjoy listening to your eclectic mix of original songs. The material evocatively expressed
The natural beauty of the Lake Superior Region and its inhabitants. Your experience growing up in the north, your background as a wilderness guide and especially your
reverence for nature was apparent. The event was enriched as a result of your strong
rapport with the audience which included an interesting narrative of each particular song highlighting the context in which the composition was created.

Congratulations for an outstanding performance with your band The Lost Guides!
The Mission Statement of Algoma Singer/Songwriters is to promote and foster both the composition and performance of original music within the Algoma District. We are
Currently planning our itinerary for 2005 and wish to invite you with your band The Lost
Guides to be the musical group performing for the first show of our concert series in early March 2007.

Songs From the Coastline (2004)

Don's first CD titled Songs from the Coastline/Safe Harbour is a wonderful collection of songs inspired by his Northern roots. His experience as a fishing and wilderness guide is reflected in his songwriting. This album contains sixteen original songs written and performed by this artist. If you love the Lake Superior region you'll love this music!

Travel down the coast and highway 17 and visit places like Katherine Cove, Garguantua Harbour and the Devil's Chair. Michipicoten Bay is next and all the way to the Pukaskwa... hear the sound of waves crashing on the shore and Lake Superior singing her song...

Wildwood/Through Tom's Eyes ( June 2005)

The music on this album 'Wildwood/Through Tom's Eyes' celebrates the life and work of Algonquin artist Tom Thomson..."The richly textured musical arrangements are combined with a fictional account of Tom Thomson's life in Algonquin Park. The settings described in the songs, however, include actual characters, places and events which significantly influenced the life and work of this artist"...(Review/Algoma Singer/Songwriters - Phil Mantello)

Northern Highway (release date April 26/2006)

The last link of the Trans-Canada Highway was finally opened in 1960 making Canada accessible by road from coast to coast for the first time.

Highway 17 North from Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa proved to be the most difficult and costly to complete. The section of highway between Montreal River and Wawa was said to have cost a million dollars a mile.

This part of the Trans-Canada Highway became a very popular tourist route featuring the incredible Lake Superior Coastline as a backdrop. It was traveled (and still is) by people from all over the world and from all walks of life.

This highway has inspired many artists to write songs and poetry, and to photograph and paint the landscape.

"...I decided to write a collection of songs that reflects some of this northern highway’s history"...

The story begins in Agawa Bay and ends near Thunder Bay with a song dedicated to the memory of a great Canadian folk hero, Terry Fox, who left us with a million dreams…
