"Donkeypunch "Yellow and Black""

3.5 Stars

"Ottawa's Donkeypunch serve up a hearty dish fortified with extra guitar crunch on their recorded debut. The group displays a groovy, blues derived melodic sense on the acoustic intro to "Grace" , wile showing it can dole out some heavy weight guitar sounds throught the snazzily designed recording."

"CD Releases"

"Also releasing a new EP (Yellow and Black) this Friday March 31 is Donkeypunch. The soulful locals take a raspy, bluesy approach to rock in line with Gomez but fatter, juicier, and easier to dance to. "

"Yellow and Black"

I was listening to this 5 cut cd and kept losing track of time. I like to listen to stuff on a set of small, cheap speakers first to get a feel for the mix. Then I plug it into the car system and go driving. On the small system you did good . In the car I missed my turn twice, and almost got pulled over once. You guys have captured the energy I felt when listening to you live .

By the way you can't have the disc back , it's mine and that's all there is to say about that.

"Donkeypunch at CMW"

Already a popular live act in their hometown of Ottawa, Donkeypunch kick some serious ass with their straight-forward take on hard-driving rock 'n' roll. Much like their Canadian forefathers in Big Sugar, Wide Mouth Mason and The Trews, Donkeypunch fiddle a bit with the blues and mix things up with strong vocals, loud guitars and simple, focused melodies"

"Review of "Yellow and Black""

In short: Very good. Keep it up.
I think the music is good, well played and there is not enough of this style in Ottawa! We need more solid funk in the local scene. For my ears, the production is perfect.

"CD REVIEW: Donkey Punch"

"...there’s a lot of good stuff scattered throughout it(Yellow and Black), every bit that has my head doing a little dance there’s a bit that makes me wish I was listening to the last bit again.
Although they don’t quite have the sound down yet, these guys have the potential to be a hell of a lot of fun. Plus, their name rules."

"Donkeypunch"

“With sophisticated yet catchy-as-hell songwriting and tight arrangements, Donkey Punch is an act not to be missed. There might be something wrong with you if you don't want to listen to the EP over and over so you can sing along at the next show. They're a little bit funk, a little bit blues, a little bit rock and a lot of fun”.

Bio

With a stripped down approach to songwriting, a mixture of organic guitar tones and catchy lyrical hooks, DP's passion to perform the music they love has carried the band from one success to the next.

Tempering their infectious sound over the past 4 years, this band has grown into one of Ottawa's premier acts with a very passionate and growing fan base across the region. Having recently acquired $50,000 in talent development from New Cap Media, DNKYNCH has a busy year planned beginning with a new EP released in June, a spot at Canadian Music Week and aggressively touring Eastern Ontario and beyond. DP has already been honored with glowing press coverage from local media for both their debut EP "Yellow and Black" and follow up EP "Yellow and Blacker" and are on regular rotation on radio in Ottawa and Kingston with their singles "Longboard and Prosper" and "Catholic Gurl"

Donkeypunch has also enjoyed local industry buzz by releasing both EPs on the DPSTIK - a 1 Gig USB Flash Memory Drive - that allows the band to push new music to all DPSTIK users as they record it.

Having played with such bands as Sloan, The Trews, Finger 11, Mat Mays, Mobile, Thornley and 3 Days Grace...You can find Brad Alford, Ted Carty, Scab and the latest edition, Connor Kelly headlining shows in and around Ontario this year as they continue to exceed the expectations of what a local indie band is capable of. Armed with great reviews, a dedicated and growing fan base, a new EP and a bunch of cash in talent development - DNKYPNCH has gone ahead and penciled 2007 as their best year to date.
