"Dry Rain and Other Southern Folk Tales"

"Don is an exemplary song/story writer and musician whose message hits home. Americana at it's finest..." - Review by Danno. - CD Baby CD Reviews

"DON WILLIAMS EMCEES SONGWRITERS IN THE ROUND AT FOUNTAIN CITY COFFEE"

On Friday night, July 9th, Don Williams was guest
musical host at Fountain City Coffee’s open mic. Don
had invited longtime fellow singer/songwriter/musician-
friends Grandin Eakle and Joe McClure to join
him in musical rounds of their original music.
The coffee shop was brimming with enthusiastic
listeners, and they were not disappointed with this
trio’s easy-going exchange and harmonious blend.
Don led off the evening with one of his favorite
original songs Sitting in a Tree. His humor, along with
their easy style together, due to longstanding friendships,
made each offering special and as smooth as
the coffee brewed and served. It was the perfect
complement. Other Don Williams’ songs included:
I Like Women, Nowhere, and one standard, though
enigmatic, favorite, Dry Rain which, even he admits,
he doesn’t have a clue what it means, and he wrote
it. Throughout the evening, Don varied his guitar accompaniment
with his mandolin skill.

Bio

Don L Williams has always been exposed to music. As a child growing up in Virginia and Alabama, he would listen to his dad and uncle play guitar, fiddle, and sing the "good old down home music". Don began playing guitar himself in the early 60's, learning by playing with friends and with his dad. In addition to the Country music that his dad and uncle played, he was also influenced by the "British Invasion" and later, the folk movement of that era. These very different genre resulted in a diverse musical palette with an inclination toward the acoustic end of the musical spectrum. Over the years he has added several instruments to his arsenal, including mandolin and harmonica.

Don has enjoyed writing from an early age. As a college freshman, his English 101 teacher was so impressed with his writing that she tried to get him to change his major to English. Rather than writing stories, however, he started writing songs, and began sharing with friends in small gatherings... and from there he has become an integral part of the local singer/songwriter community, playing in various open mics and venues around the area. Don has shared his music from Georgia to Alabama to Texas.

If asked, Don would probably classify himself as a folksinger, although in reality his songs are very eclectic. Some are based on real, historic events, such as the closing of a Cotton Mill and Steel Mill. A couple of fan favorites are the somewhat humorous “I Like Women” and the Dylan like “Dry Rain”.

Primarily a solo artist and writer, Don has collaborated on a few songs with local singer/songwriters, as well as Judy Hoover, of the San Antonio based band Restless Wind. In addition to being a solo singer/songwriter, Don also plays mandolin and harmonica and sings as a founding member of LightHouse, a Praise and Worship band. He also plays an occasional gig with the band Tres Kerrmigos and sometimes sits in with Mid Life Crisis.

Don released his first CD in 2009 entitled "Dry Rain and Other Southern Folk Tales" which is available from CD Baby and as a digital download from iTunes, Amazon, and others. His current CD, "...back to Nothingville", was released in May of 2011.
