Bio

Donnybrook is a Celtic duo featuring husband and wife Jay and Pat Landers. They were founding members of Drowsy Maggie in Louisville, KY in 1983. Jay had been playing the accordion for 25 years at that time, but most of his exposure to Irish music was American-Irish and a few familiar jigs and reels. Pat was a Music Education major in college and had a degree in piano and voice. By coincidence Pat had taken up the tin whistle the same year Jay was invited to join a new Irish band. He and Pat both went to the audition and became founding members of one of Louisville's early Celtic bands managed by Jerry and Martha Forde. Martha was born in Ireland. She and a friend and her daughters would perform Irish step dancing periodically on programs given by Drowsy Maggie. They owned a shop in Louisville that imported fine Celtic jewelry, clothing, recordings and other accessories. They performed regularly with Drowsy Maggie from 1983-1992. Then, they created a duo called Donnybrook and have maintained that performing identity to the present day. Jay and Pat learned an entirely new repertoire of music from Ireland, Scotland and the British Isles once they joined Drowsy Maggie. Pat has studied the symbols, history and folk lore of the Celtic heritage and music. Donnybrook offers traditional ballads, jigs, reels, waltzes, polkas and slides in a variety of instrumental and vocal performances. The duo books 8-12 engagements during the week of St. Patrick's Day every year, including country clubs, retirement facilities, elementary schools, restaurants and other venues.
