"Local band is semifinalist in contest"

Donora, a trio from the Gibsonia section of Richland Township, is a semifinalist in a nationwide contest, Calling All Bands. Sponsored by www.myspace.com and Verizon Wireless, Donora's "She's Just a Girl,'" is one of 15 from more than 4,500 songs that has made the semifinals. The winner of the contest will release a single and video on V Cast, Verizon's video broadcast component.

Donora features Casey Hanner on vocals and guitar, Jake Hanner on drums, and bassist Jake Churton. The Hanners are the children of Dave Hanner of Corbin-Hanner Band fame.

Bio

Jake H. met Casey a few hours after she was born. He was disappointed she was a girl and cried. Eighteen years later, he got over it, and they started a band. A few years after that, they suckered another kid named Jake into playing bass. After shooting down Casey’s idea to name the band Casey and the Jakes, they became Donora.

Jake H. plays the drums, triggers samples from his octapad, and sings backup. Casey sings and tries very hard to remember the right guitar chords to play. Jake C. plays bass and reminds Casey which key each song starts in. Together they play melodic, dance-worthy, garage rock.

Their demo was recorded live by Casey and Jake H’s Dad, in his garage studio. No overdubs. No vocal tuning. Seriously.
