Lori Donovan

BandBluesAcoustic

Lori Donovan has a haunting voice, delivering an ecclectic blend of blues, folk and rock 'n' roll with equal passion and flavor. Along with her partner/guitarist, Jeff Roberts, they insure that every performance is memorable.

Biography

Lori and Jeff are heavily influenced by the blues. Lori credits much of her sound to the early styles of Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Sippie Wallace and neo-blues phenoms like Susan Tedeschi, Sue Foley and Eva Cassidy. At the same time she enjoys a blend of 60's folk (Robbie Robertson, Bob Dylan) and modern rock 'n' roll (Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge). Jeff's inspriations can be found in T-Bone Walker, Duke Robillard, The Nighthawks, Lonnie Shields, Steve Earle and Chris Smither.

Both Lori and Jeff perform with their own full-out blues bands and have performed collectively all over the east coast. Recently, they performed at MUSIKFEST, a 10-day music festival in Pennsylvania that hosts over 1 million visitors.

Lyrics

YOUR GONNA MAKE ME LONESOME WHEN YOU GO

Written By: Bob DYlan

I've seen love go by my door
It's never been this close before
Never been so easy or so slow.
I been shooting in the dark too long
When somethin's not right it's wrong
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Purple clover, Queen Anne lace,
Crimson hair across your face,
You could make me cry if you don't know.
Can't remember what I was thinkin' of
You might be spoilin' me too much, love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

(solo)

There are Dragon clouds so high above
I've only known careless love,
It's always hit me from below.
This time around it's more correct
Right on target, so direct,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Flowers on the hillside, bloomin' crazy,
Crickets talkin' back and forth in rhyme,
Blue river runnin' slow and lazy,
I could stay with you forever
And never realize the time.

Situations have ended sad,
Relationships have all been bad.
Mine've been like Verlaine's and Rimbaud.
But there's no way I can compare
All them scenes to this affair,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Ah…Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm doin',
Stayin' far behind without you.
Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm sayin',
Yer gonna make me give myself a good talkin' tooooooo.

I'll look for you in old Honolulu,
San Francisco, Ashtabula,
Yer gonna have to leave me now, I know.
But I'll see you in the sky above,
In the tall grass, in the ones I love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

TWILIGHT

Written By: Robbie Robertson

Over by the wild wood of clover
Hot summer night
We lay in the tall grass
Til the mornin' light (come shining)

If I had my way I'd never
get the urge to roam
Sometimes I serve my country
And sometimes I stay at home

Just don't put me in a frame upon the mantel
Where memories grow dusty old and grey
Don't leave me alone in the twilight
Twilight is the loneliest time a day

Ohhh Ohhh Ohhh Ohhh

And I never gave a second thought
It never crossed my mind
To what is right and what is not
I'm not the judgin' kind

But I would steal the darkness
And the storms from your skies
We all got certain trials
burnin' up inside

(Just don’t) send me no distant salutations
or silly souvenirs from far away
Don't leave me alone in the twilight
Twilight is the loneliest time a day

Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhh

And don't put me in a frame upon the mantel
Where memories turn dusty old and grey
Don't leave me alone in the twilight
Twilight is the loneliest time a day

Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhh

MIGHTY TIGHT WOMAN

Written By: Sippie Wallace

I come to you sweet man and I’m falling on my knees
I come to you pretty poppa falling on my knees
Ask if you don’t have no body would you kindly take me please

Cause I’m a mighty tight woman
I’m a real tight woman
I’m a jack of all trades
I can be your sweet woman
Also be your slave
But I can do things so good
You will swear that I been paid

I got all the men saying that I’m tight in everything I do
I got all the men crying I’m a broad that will never be blue
Mmmmhhhmmmm
All I need is a good man I will make him happy too

If you’re a married man you ain’t got no business here
Cause when your out with me well I might make your little wife shed a tear
Cause I’m a mighty tight woman
There is nothin’
Nothin that I fear
