Bio

DOPE SAGITTARIUS is the epic tale of an inter-dimensional, time-traveling band hell-bent
on saving the multiverse from mediocre music. A stroke of genius from
mastermind M.C. WHISTLER (aka Luqman Brown) and inspired by the likes of
Funkadelic, OutKast, The Qemists & The Gorillas, DOPE SAGITTARIUS embodies
an undeniably creative blend of music, animation, technology, wit, humor &
history.

During his previous lives, M.C. WHISTLER carved a name for himself touring the United States
and Europe with the punk-funk outfit FUNKFACE. But never one to limit his creative
interests, he nurtured his growing appreciation for electronic music by perfecting
tracks and honing his chops as an M.C. and producer in the New York
underground.

He cut his teeth with THE WICKID CREW (featuring DJ Greg Poole and Idris Alba of HBO's "The Wire"), which was featured on FADER magazine’s Suite903 compilation. In addition, he performed with M.J. COLE in battling SO SOLID CREW and other infamous M.C. crews from Europe.

After the global decline of 2-Step, M.C. WHISTLER pursued his own brand of electro-pop-hip-hop—showing up as a guest on albums as diverse as “Disco Lights” by APOLLO HEIGHTS and “Dirty New York” by KNIFEHANDCHOP.

He’s also created commercial interstitials for NICKELODEON'S ‘THE N’ as well as the title track for BET's CULTURE LIST hosted by Tamar Braxton. In 2005, M.C. WHISTLER truly came into his own sound while traveling and touring Europe for 3 years. While there, he performed at events like the BURTON EUROPEAN SNOWBOARD CHAMPIONSHIP (Switzerland) & UEFA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP (Austria).

And just this year (2014), M.C. Whistler (as Luqman Brown) completed a quite triumphant run as the lead actor in Stew's (Passing Strange) new musical ‘Family Album’ at Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Check out what the NY Times had to say.

Now back on New York soil, he continues to stretch his wings as a musician, producer & performer by joining DOPE SAGITTARIUS up with the WARPER CREW and playing many of the ABELTON theme parties. With a new band, an amazing producer/partner (the Austrian-born ILL PHIL), a sick video produced by FRESH FX, and a digital comic drawn by MARVEL comic book artist TIM SMITH 3, DOPE SAGITTARIUS is primed to fully promote its first release, ‘GHETTO GLITCH.’

All guns blazing.
