On Thursday, September 11th, Singer/Songwriter Dorian Allen will release his EP Running Back to You, in partnership with Raine Magazine. The release event will be held at 1315 Studios located at 15 West 28th Street, from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm, and will showcase Victoria Scandale’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection, in celebration of New York Fashion Week.
Dorian Allen, originally from Houston, Texas, now resides in NYC and has been singing since the age of two and writing since the age of thirteen. Dorian was a semifinalist on P. Diddy’s MTV show, “Making His Band” (2009), and is most credited for singing back-up for iconic musicians such as include Philip Bailey, Michael McDonald, Mavis Staples, Ben E. King, and Sam Smith. Dorian was also the winner of the ASCAP Collective Workshop award for his song, “Hook, Line, and Sinker,” in March 2014.
The talented singer/songwriter fuses R&B, Pop, Rock, Folk, and Country in his songs of love, life, hurt, and growth; all things he experienced while creating this record. “I want to be able to stimulate the mind, body, and soul of listeners, ring into their hearts, just as those that I grew to admire did,” says Allen about the new project.“I try to capture that raw emotion in my music where listeners can engage and relate,” he adds.

Closing out New York Fashion Week ’14, Dorian Allen premiered his EP, Running Back to You, in the city’s Flatiron district on Thursday night, leaving guests anticipating what’s to come from Dorian’s upcoming musical ventures.Dorian Allen’s EP Release party, presented by Raine magazine, also featured a special fashion show presentation by designer Victoria Scandale showcasing her S/S 2015 collection.
As guests made their way into 1315 Studios, they were greeted with passed hors d’ ouevres provided by Perfect Peach Events, LLC, which included boneless chicken wings with teriyaki, BBQ or hot sauce to dip in, fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil skewers, black bean and corn salsa in a tortilla cup, filet mignon on a crustini with basil aoili and crispy onions, vegetable lo mein in a mini Chinese container, and cheesecake stuffed strawberries with chocolate drizzle.
uests were able to exclusively preview and listen to Dorian’s EP at special music-listening stations. Everyone from some of NYC’s music industry professionals to magazine editors, and stylists were among the crowd. The show promptly got started after Dorian’s arrival at 8:00pm.
Dorian’s amazing performance was accompanied by a 5 piece band and [3] back-up vocalists. The 4-song performance included, “No One Can Love You,” “Bon Voyage,” and the first single of his EP, “Running Back to You”. Throughout the night Dorian was styled by celebrity stylist Jay Johnson. The vibe within the room was a very contemporary setting with hints of vintage décor such as a music box from the 1940′s; chic black accents were also displayed against the all-white loft.
The night continued with complimentary drinks provided by William Wolf Whiskey, and water from All Beauty Water, a DJ that kept the crowd entertained, and gift boxes provided by SK Energy Shots, Eatwhatever, Grab The Gold, Kixies High Tighs, c4 Belts, and a copy of Dorian Allen’s EP, Running Back to You.

I remember first seeing Dorian Allen on P. Diddy’s MTV show “Making the Band” back in 2009 and was impressed with his voice. Seeing and hearing him after five years makes me even more impressed with his vocal capabilities. I am so glad that someone as talented as Mr. Allen is still in the game and getting better at his craft. The Dorian Allen EP launch, in collaboration with Raine Magazine, included a performance by the man of the night himself, as well as models wearing Victoria Scandale’s latest creations.
Victoria Scandale had her Spring/Summer 2015 Collection showcased during Dorian Allen’s performance. While the models walked out during Dorian Allen’s performance I was not really able to see each piece of clothing very closely, for two reasons; first, I could not take my eyes off of Dorian Allen, and second, it was a bit dark. Even though I was not able to see them clearly, from what I could see, I really fell in love with the white coat and the A-line white and blue dress. After seeing the pictures of the actual pieces from her new line I could see why those two caught my eyes, they are both very sophisticated and classy. Victoria’s whole line seems like the type of clothing housewives would wear in the 1920s while going to PTA meetings and getting their hair done at the salon, but with a modern edge; the line has an a more updated and sexy look to it. It really was a great pleasure to listen to Dorian Allen sing and serenade us with his silky smooth voice. When he hit those high notes I could feel the hairs on my arms rising and I know that everyone in that room felt that same way, too. Dorian Allen is the kind of artist that has stage presence and is able to connect and touch the audience with his music. Dorian Allen is a singer/songwriter that captures, in its purest form, the essence of being an artist. Born in Houston, Texas, Dorian grew up hearing the sounds of R&B, Pop, Rock, Gospel, and Soul flood the speakers throughout his house daily. By the early age of two, he began showing signs that music wasn’t just a love; it was his gift. At 13 years old, Dorian began immersing himself into the world of songwriting, which flourished into the creation of his own musical sounds and lyrics.
Through dedication and perseverance in honing his craft, he landed in the city of Boston, where he attended and graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. In conjunction with his musical education, the sounds of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Donny Hathaway, Yolanda Adams, Stevie Wonder, and Luther Vandross (just to name a few), have all helped him develop the style and essence of his own music.
Dorian’s talents have granted him many opportunities, such as becoming a semifinalist on P. Diddy’s MTV show “Making His Band,” in 2009. King, and currently Sam Smith, Dorian felt strongly that it was time to express his own message to the world. He just released his highly anticipated EP, Running Back To You, in October. It's filled with songs of love, life, hurt, and growth; all things he experienced while creating this record. With the lyrics he writes and the melodic sounds he produces, you can hear the fusion of R&B, Pop, Rock, Folk, and Country.
He pulls inspiration from everywhere, including his parents, to whom he credits as his biggest supporters. “Their journey of love, as well as my own experiences, paved the way for these songs,” he says. Life, with all of its peaks and valleys, is a strong influential factor for Dorian. This has helped him discover who he is, musically and spiritually, as life is the journey that continues to teach us. Dorian never stops breaking ground as a hard-working, professional musician. Dorian currently resides in Las Angeles, where he continues to create his distinguished sound. Just as his musical inspirations have so eloquently done before him, he hopes to develop longevity within the music industry while concurrently, raising the bar in excellence.
