"Jezebel Music Online"

"My new favorite singer/songwriter is definitely Dorie [Colangelo]. She is not inventing a new genre and will not raise the eyebrows of cool kids looking for the next new sound. She will rock your world with the solidity of her songwriting, featuring eyebrow-raising melodic variation, naturally blissful finger-pickings, and a dynamite voice, one that contains jazz, pop, and country elements." -Gabriel Levitt of JezebelMusic.com

Bio

"I create music for the long walk home in the dark, after a break up I guess" says Dorie Colangelo who started writing songs on a classical guitar in her hometown of Greenwich, CT at the age of 14. She has been living in Brooklyn, NY for the past 5 years, playing shows and writing countless songs about life, love and heartbreak...but mostly heartbreak.

From 2002 to 2004, Dorie was mentored by producer Jimmy Ienner (John Lennon, Bay City Rollers, Three Dog Night) who helped shape her songwriting, performance skills, image and sound (and even dubbed her with the stage name, Dorie Vance) all which landed her a live audition at Epic Records for the Vice President of A&R who, after a few more meetings, decided that she wasn't quite ready for a major label record deal.

After facing a few more major label rejections, she grew tired of trying to fit into the pop mold and decided to get back to basics. In 2008 she released her self titled debut album which was recorded live in the studio in twelve straight hours with producers Joanne Perica and Philip Maniatty, drummer Rob Draghi, bassist Roberto Ruiz, guitarists Robin Macatangay and Brian Forbes and cellist David Sharpe. "I wanted to make a record like they did in the good old days, where musicians got in a room and just laid down the songs live. No pitch correction, no do-overs, no punching in. And that's what I did." The result was an extremely intimate album of very personal songs.

Dorie now combines the lessons of her pop past with the uniqueness of her natural songwriting style in a new EP currently being recorded at The Gallery Recording Studio in Brooklyn, NY with producer Brian Forbes. "This new album will be a little harder hitting and less mellow than my self titled album and the new songs have moved away from the melancholy vibe. The lyrics still tell stories of disappointment and heartbreak but they no longer take themselves so seriously."

The new EP will be released this summer, 2010. Until then, catch Dorie at her upcoming performances in NYC.
