Bio

Dorie Pride is a gifted poetess who spreads Seeds of LIGHT through her music. As the world grows darker with each day, hope and light slip away. Dorie Pride has been called the "Bob Dylan of this generation" because of her prolific timely observations on the human condition.

She weaves thought provoking stories on our social tapestry beckoning humanity to listen to the silent cries of the desolate, while being heavily influenced by The Beatles (evident on songs like "Lifes Just A Color TV", "Revolution", "Cry" and "Day In The Life").

Dorie has a unique style, which is a diverse and eclectic blend of alternative pop/rock,dance, hip-hop & a dash of jazz. "I started my musical journey playing around with a cheap folk guitar I got for Christmas one year. My neighbor Ray Parker Jr. taught me how to play 3 open chords. I wrote poetry and began the process of learning how to write songs. Playing the guitar brought a sense of wholeness to my songwriting. I could be more exact in what I wanted to communicate".

Dorie Pride grew up in Detroit where Motown ruled in platinum making commercial Pop/ R&B music. "My musical pallet is very wide. While I embraced everything from the Motown hit factory, I loved The Beatles, The Stones, Prince, U2 and Earth Wind and Fire. Then there was Ray Charles He graced my ears from birth. My mother worshipped him. As females go I got into Joni Mitchell. I love the way she plays guitar. Stevie Nicks, Annie Lennox, Tracy Chapman and Cyndy Lauper captured my attention because they all had such cool, different sounding voices. They were lone wolves, good songwriters, unique looking and hip. All very appealing to me".

In Dorie's live show, a bonafide storyteller emerges captivating her audience, drawing them into a world of mute voices crying out to be heard. The theatrics of Annie Lennox emerges throughout the passages of love songs, both bitter and sweet. You can hear the sound of a pin crashing to the floor at her shows as she whispers secrets behind 4 walls of pain. Many compare her unique, earthy, androgynous sound and eclectic style to Stevie Nicks and John Lennon.

While her exotic beauty is evident what Dorie Pride brings to the stage far out-weighs sexual enticement. Yet, raw sensuality bears through her statuesque body as she rocks the stage reminiscent of Tina Turner. She paints pictures that take you on a voyeuristic journey evoking emotions.

Dorie is a true artist in every sense of the word. She captures and epitomizes life in a way that is riveting and electrifying. Some artists use their canvas to paint, some use their hands to sculpt, but Dorie uses her heart to feel, her words to heal and her voice to evoke emotion.

Janet Jackson and Johnny Mathis are a couple of the illustrious artists who benefited from her talents by recording songs written by Dorie and her co-writer, Producer Kamau Seitu. Her music takes you on an adventure that is visually exciting and mentally stimulating.

SHE'S SO REAL SHE'LL GRAB A HOLD OF YOUR HEART! SPREADING SEEDS OF LIGHT!

"An Artist only prays to communicate what is sequestered in the inner chambers of the heart yearning to be born. One can only hope that the true full intention of the soul's need to express intself is conveyed with honesty and emotion. Whatever is felt by way of telling the truth in a moment of inspiration is truly DIVINE." - excerpt from "SPIRT TALK/SOUL WALK" - the book by Dorie Pride © 2005 Dorie Pride
