"Suggested Artist"

Suggested Artists are musicians or songwriters that the Song of the Year staff found impressive and would suggest for listening. This listing is found at
http://www.songoftheyear.com/winners/2008/sept/suart.htm

This is for
The Drums of War which I entered in the September 2008 competition. I had very strong reviews from the Judges and the above recommendation from the staff at Song of the Year. - Song of the Year

"Musician finalist in Songwriting Contest"

Nanaimos Doris Morson celebrated the selection of her song as a finalist in an international songwriting contest.
Morson's song, 'Ain't it Funny', was selected as one of four finalists in the country category in Song of the Year, for the month of October, and again in April 2008
Song of the Year is a co.mpetition that encourages songwriting and helps writers network with professionals in the music industry.
Morson grewup in a musical family, taking piano lessons and playing in the family band and with Church Choirs.
"I guess it's a similar story for everybody," Morson said."But it's only been in the last few years that I started songwriting."
Morson discovered an instrument from Yamaha called a clavinova, which allowed her to add instruments and record songs, some of which she submitted to the contest. She earned runner-up honours previously, but this is her first time as a finalist.
Members of the judging panel are pulled from the recording industry, including musicians, singers, promoters and record label executives. Finalists' songs are sent to record companies, publishers and managers.
"I'm writing with hopes that people will hear my music and want to sing my songs themselves," Morson said.
Morsons's song can be heard online at www.musicbc.org. Click on the Music BC Radio box and scroll through the songs.

Bio

Some call my music 'Old Country'... I have written 23 songs to date..I don't have a band, nor do I go 'out' and perform...I'm a songwriter mainly, but have enjoyed putting my efforts on one CD called 'More Songs from The Shores of Departure Bay' which I recorded at home....... I have placed in the top five finalists in Song of the Year competion in October 2007....and again in April 2008 , and have also been in the 'runners up' with previous songs. The song that got me on the 'finalists list twice' is.....'Ain't it Funny'.. These awards
can be viewed at http://www.songoftheyear.com/webawards/d/DorisMCasavant-Morson.html I received notice on the 16th of Nov/08 that my song 'The Drums of War' placed in the 'Suggested Artist' category, and in March 2009 The Drums of War received honorable mention. The rendition of 'The Drums' in my file is a professional demo done in Nashville. I am not doing the vocals on this one, but the music and lyrics are my arrangement done with a more professional touch. Though my song did not place in the top 5 it is still considered 'quite impressive'.the critiques for 'The Drums' were top notch and showed every indication of success.
