This collection of honest and personal gospel songs is laid out as a journey, a heartfelt documentation of one woman's struggles and accomplishments. Simultaneously embracing the past and leaving it behind, these tracks are stories of newfound hope and inspiration, beautifully cathartic in their approach to life and spirituality. Instead of dwelling on previous mistakes, the songs focus on looking to the future, to a life filled with confidence and encouragement. Her smoky vocals echo the thematic content of the songs perfectly, as her voice encompasses a conviction that makes these original songs that much more touching and appropriately sentimental. Musically, these professionally produced tracks are modern and mellow, hinting at soul, light jazz, and straightforward R&B. It works well with her vocal style, which is strong in its presence but laid back in its approach. While many gospel albums focus too intently on a universal appeal and end up sounding run-of-the-mill, Colon has proven that a personal approach is equally effective, if not more so. Dorothy Colon, born in Mississippi and reared in Queens, New York City, is a lover of God's music in all forms. She grew up in the COGIC singing in the choir, Memphis Convocations, UNAC, and local church functions. Her love for music opened her up to all styles, traditional, contemporary, country, & Rhythm & Blues. Known though out the church community for her traditional, tambourine beating, foot stomping styles, this cd is truly a departure from a familiar turf. Dorothy invites you into her intimate time with the Lord. No fancy vocals, just pure, smooth melody clear lyrics, and a powerful message.
Dorothy has had the pleasure of singing with many of her favorite artist which include; Timothy Wright, Tramaine Hawkins, and the Clark Sisters. Her Musical influencers are Tramaine Hawkins, CeCe Winans, Roberta Flak, Anita Baker, Vanessa Williams, Dorinka Clarke Cole, the Clark Sisters, Sandra Huff, Leo Colon,Inez Andrews,Richard Hartley and Donnie McClurkin.
After losing her little girl in childbirth Dorothy emerged to thank God for sparing her life. Her husband, Leo Colon whose musical career includes musician and music director for Grammy nominated Vanessa Williams, Anita Baker, Chaka, Pattie Austin, BeBe Winans, and countless others dedicated themselves to the expression of God's faithfulness in all. Dorothy has dedicated her cd to her Mother "Doris Ade' because it was her mother’s intervention on Mother’s Day that saved her life.
