"A Time To Heal"

A local woman is encouraging people to live in the here and now through an innovative CD.
Dorothy Ludlow recently recorded Life is not a Dress Rehearsal, a Time to Heal, which centers on inner-healing and forgiveness.
Ludlow has been involved with women’s ministry for many years and has given retreats, preached missions and spoken to many Christian organizations.
She is a spiritual advisor for both the cursillo movement and the charismatic renewal in the local diocese.
Most of Ludlow’s ministry work has come to revolve around inner healing.
“Over the last few years, many people say to me ‘do you have a book? Do you have a CD? Do you have something we can take home?’ And my answer has always been no.”
After she and Mary Ellen Scribner, who provides music during her retreats, did an afternoon of prayer in Cape Breton, she was asked the same question.
Scribner suggested Ludlow do a CD, and offered to get the ball rolling on the project.
“I never thought she would,” Ludlow said. “The next day she called me and said ‘we’re recording Nov. 22.”
Ludlow and Scribner, along with Ludlow’s daughter, Anna, who plays the violin, recorded the CD at Lakewind Sound, a recording studio in Cape Breton owned by Gordie Sampson and Fred Lavery.
“It was a wonderful, wonderful studio,” Ludlow said. “I was intimidated – I had never recorded before. But it was like walking into a peaceful oasis – they made it so easy.”
Lavery also did some guitar on the CD.
The album features script and music, Ludlow said, and deals with memories.
“We all come from different life experiences, but some of us come from a life experience where we have been very damaged.”
Painful and hurtful memories are often very difficult to forget, she added.
“Therefore, we spend more time in the past then we do living in the moment.”
The CD is about 55 minutes long and has text, song and instrumental music in it. It begins with the woman at the well, the progresses from birth and infancy to childhood, adolescence and adult life.
“This music runs through the whole CD,” he said.
After each segment of inner healing, which features music in the background, there is a song.
“I kept the music very simple because I wanted people to be able to sing with it when they are listening.”
Ludlow sings each of the songs and her daughter, along with Scribner, provides back-up vocals.
Ludlow is holding a release for the CD in Antigonish May 31 at St. Ninian Place. All women are invited to attend.
“It’s a time for us to come and reflect upon who we are – that our life is a sacred journey and we shouldn’t waste a moment,” she said. “Our life in not a dress rehearsal.”
Ludlow said when people listen to the CD or attend one of the release sessions they will have leave with that sense that life a precious gift.
“It’s bad enough that we have been hurt, but what’s really tragic is that hurt owns us for most of our lifetime when we should say ‘move on.’ I have to live my life.”
During her 40 years in the working with the charismatic renewal and the cursillo movement, Ludlow said she has asked herself “what makes the Christian life different from any other life?”
“I think until we ask ourselves that serious question … we won’t understand this wonderful, wonderful life we have been given in Christ.”
Today maybe all we have, she added, and there is a journey to be made.
“We’re holy women, blessed women, touched by God, touched by His grace.”
Release sessions will also be held in Guysborough June 11 and Mabou June 13. - The Antigonish CASKET
