"Latin Soul- Almost Famous"

As I itch like a crack fiend for some good music to listen to, channeling through radio, searching through my itunes library, I still can't find something to satisfy me. Looking for a quick fix, I pop in my "Freeze" single CD, and overdose to soulful voices of DOSE to get the high that I need.

The future of Latin Soul

The debut of the Latin R&B duo, DOSE, is slated to redefine modern Latin Soul. Their musical DNA is a blend of classic R&B, hip-hop and Latino rhythms. Each member possesses a unique sound. The smooth dynamic range of “Sexy Cut’s” vocals compliments the raspy, masculine tone, of “Phil NUTt’s” voice. DOSE has long surprised crowds with their unexpected powerful and soulful voices. Their debut album packs an arsenal of addictive musical ingredients, and is respectfully entitled “overDOSE”.

The album has a healthy dose of R&B, dance, pop, soul, hip-hop and Latin tunes. The group is the brainchild of Liquidwet Entertainment’s CEO, Lantz Mitchell, who has produced music for artists such as D’Angelo, SWV, Groove Theory among others. He had envisioned working with a “true Latin R&B” group. In an act of fate, he was introduced to a Latin R&B singer from Spanish Harlem. Though he was talented in his own right, this singer shared stories of a Latin R&B group that kept the streets of the El Barrio buzzing. Lantz set out to meet these voices. He was introduced to a five member Latino R&B group, two of which branched off to become the duo DOSE.

The Spanish Harlem natives, Phil “NUTt”, a true Nuyorican and Sexy “Cut” of Dominican decent, are both first generation American Latinos. They boast about their love and appreciation of the beats, string and drums of traditional Latino music, such as Bachata, Salsa and Merengue. However, the infectious sounds of their urban surroundings organically fostered their passion for R&B and hip-hop. Their influences range from Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly and Jodeci to La Fania All Stars, Juan Luis Guerra, Mark Anthony and many more.

Each member’s path was driven by a love for R&B. Many questioned why they choose this genre, as it is not traditionally a Latino dominated market. “It’s not about race when it comes to R&B, its about soul, you either have it or you don’t”, DOSE says with a jovial seriousness. Serious is always the nature of their tone when referring to their music. Living in Harlem’s projects has always presented a tug of war between getting caught up in the negative side of their surroundings and giving music the chance to get them out.

DOSE’s first single, “Sexy” is certainly a women’s anthem. The song, playfully suggest, the beauty of self-confidence and female vanity. The video, produced by Liquidwet’s film division is slated to hit the airways soon.

The debut album, “overDOSE”, will be available in both English and in Spanish versions. Using accomplished musical production, experience as seasoned live performers, and flat out ability to "blow" as the foundation for their musical career, DOSE is undoubtedly poised to raise the bar for R&B and Urban/Latin music as a whole.
