"Got Next: Double E- The Last Laugh"

You gotta respect the hustlers…but more so when a hustler in the music game has the best of both worlds (skills and hustle) the combination can be deadly.

Before the reality show era was in full Swing, Double E got his first chance as a featured artist on Missy Elliot’s “Road to Stardom” almost half a decade ago where he did pretty well under the name Prince Ep.

As a part of the show, he emerged top of all the rappers and eventually won himself a record deal with Missy’s label and it seemed that success was inevitable.

Of course like 9 out of 10 artists signed to a Major label the guarantees are few and he sat dormant for a while and he eventually got himself released from the contract.

Like a true hustler, the New Orleans native used his position and experience to know as many people, learn as much as he could about the business and applied it to his next venture.

The youtube Era helped launch the career of Souljah Boy and numerous other acts including Double E’s secret weapon at the time, “Camp 22? aka “Cash Camp 22?, famous for the hit single “Crank Dat Yank”.

As a manager and mentor for the group, Double E helped them work up a buzz then got them signed to Epic and the rest is history.

Fast forward to 2010 after a patiently waiting behind the scenes and recording tirelessly at his EME facility the timing couldn’t be better.

Armed with the wealth of knowledge and experience coupled with the guidance of Hermon (manager extraordinaire) Double E stands a better chance than most.

HHABC got a chance to speak with Double E and it is clear that other than time, nothing else stands in the way of his success.

Bio

“It’s sad I had to dumb down to reach the masses and crowds; as my saying goes you can only go as fast as traffic allows”: Words taken from Double E formally known as Prince Ep. The name change came as a result of the recognition and exposure received from the highly televised UPN program; “Missy Elliot’s: Road to Stardom” where he was handpicked by Mona Scott (CEO Violator) to be a contestant. On the show, he was voted one of the most popular and ended up being the last rapper standing. Even with all his success on the show, the industry would prove to be a very difficult one for Double E as he encountered some mistakes, broken promises and two botched deals.

Born in New Orleans, (now based in Atlanta) Double E has always been interested in music. At the age of ten, he wrote and produced the theme music for a local YMCA advertisement. Double E started rapping off and on in high school but began to take the craft seriously in 1999 while attending college. Double E credits MC battles as one of the key elements that helped him develop his skills so quickly. "I made it a point to learn every flow I would encounter and basically beat MC's with their own flows". While admitting there is always more to learn, Double E still surpasses most of today’s industry standards.

Around 2006-2007, Double E almost quit music all together. Instead, he started managing a group named Cash Camp/Camp 22 and worked hard to instill star quality within them while teaching them from his earlier mistakes. The very first you tube video that got anyone signed was done by his group and that artist was Soulja Boy. He then took them under his company, Eclectic Music & Entertainment (EME) and created the hit single “Crank Dat Yank”. The single played in heavy rotation around the nation, on 106 and park, and through other entertainment outlets. After an extensive bidding war, he got the group signed to Epic/Sony.

With inspiration from his work with Cash Camp, he is now at 100 percent with a fresh start and new outlook. Double E has since released a viral single called “Dreamin” which garnered over 50,000 views in its first week on Blastro. His recently released single “Rain on Her” is spinning within major Vegas and Atlanta nightclubs and gained its first radio play in the UK. Double E has worn many hats in his constant journey with music and artistry. He has been the artist, the producer, the writer, the engineer, the manager, and the CEO. He has experienced the business of music and what it takes behind the scenes to make dreams become a reality. Double E has had success on many levels, so when faced with another chance to catch his dreams and with his feet planted firmly on the ground; the only obvious thing left to do is connect the dots and let the world see!!
