Bio

The Chicago-based band Double Fortune is a mysterious blend of the classical, the revolutionary, and the elegantly simple. Their music is at once accessible and multi-hued. Pungent with archetypal themes, they breathe fresh life into a genre that had been long ago left for dead, that of pop music itself. The sincerity and even gentle honesty of a song like Subtleties is in stark contrast to the bluesy rocker Walking On, yet both give us a glimpse of a band in the midst of developing themselves.

The greater mystery may be the unique line-up of this band. Angie Maloney, songwriter, guitar and vocals, has been writing music since her early teens, and was carving out a niche as a well-respected folk artist in an around Chicago prior to her foray into the rock world. This transformation began in earnest when drummer Jonathan Gray answered her advertisement in the fall of 2004. The two spent several months learning each others styles, reviewing much of Angie's folk repertoire, and sporadically searching for a bassist. After several misfires Tom Hollinden was auditioned and instantly the three knew they had something special. That spring and the following summer the band spent their time focused on the recording of their EP Set Of 4, mostly foregoing shows until the recording was complete in early fall 2005. The rehearsals paid off as is amply shown on the now available CD.

Today the band seeks to share their special blend of poignant and almost giddy rock in live performances, revealing in the process the growing library of tunes which did not make it onto their EP, and their special, completely inviting stage presence. It shall indeed be our Double Fortune to hear this band today, and to inevitably hear great things from them in the future.
