Bio
Singer Charles Dolph and bassist Ethan Philion met while studying at Oberlin College & Conservatory. Intrigued by the possibilities of a voice-bass duo, the two began performing together in the Cleveland area in the spring of 2012 under the name DoubleStop. Their partnership took off in 2013 when the two spent the summer performing at various venues on Cape Cod.
In 2013 Dolph and Philion began composing together as well as arranging songs for larger ensembles. Their debut album, DoubleStop, reflects this work—the album features original compositions performed by several different ensembles that Dolph and Philion directed while at Oberlin. They have collaborated with numerous artists, including Tom Lagana, Ele Rubenstein, Mark Meadows, Herb Scott, Simone Baron, Nate Friedman, Matt Gold, A Little Big Band, Oberlin Jazz Outreach Ensemble, and more.
Dolph and Philion reside in Washington DC where they continue to perform together as a duo and lead various larger groups in the area.
