Sonar Lights

“Hello, we’re Sonar Lights, and we’re from Denton,” was the only intro the rock trio needed. Lead singer and guitarist George Miadis, backup vocalist and bassist Darren Wise and drummer Doug McKenna took the stage with fervor.

The first few songs on their setlist, though self-written and often unknown to the crowds of people sitting at the venue’s tables and gathering in groups around the lighted outdoor space, got the crowd moving. Many a head could be seen bobbing with the music.

Some even occasionally clapped along as the band continued to play.

A guitar introduction to a cover of the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigsby” sent a cheers scattering throughout the crowd as the band launched into their version of the song. And their musical talent didn’t disappoint.

Sonar Lights delivered a passionate rendition of the classic that would have made Paul McCartney proud. - North Texas Daily

Bio

At the age of 3 I played my first drum beat and was introduced to the world of drumming by my father. He taught me how to play and from there on out he fed me song after song to learn then eventually started playing with his bands since I was about 7, gaining experience and knowledge from some amazing musicians. Playing numerous shows with his bands , eventually getting recognized by local talent where I was then picked up by Disney (at the time) artist Ashlee Keating at the age of 15. Writing drum parts for her pop type songs, we then gigged threw out the north east playing festivals/gigs in NJ all the way up to NY in the Manhattan. At the age of 16, I officially joined the DDRUM family. Was then picked up by artist Chris Arena where we played his album which was featured in the movie Dark Fall, in full at The House Of Blues in Atlantic City for the movie Premiere. As well as playing gigs with my own bands at the time. Eventually moving out to Dallas, Texas where countless auditions and opportunity has put me where I am today. After doing a little traveling too south Texas with Melissa Brooke Band, I was picked up by the heavy rocking band Sonar Lights. Fresh off their second China tour, (Enter The Snake tour, Midi Festival) and ready to hit the studio with Grammy Winning Engineer, Tim Kimsey (Merciful Fate, Pantera, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Don Henley, Sick Puppies, etc.) Sonar has done great things so far opening for acts such as (The B-52’s, Cowboy Mouth, Rigor Mortis, Candle Box, Mute Math, Los Lonely Boys, The Toadies, Bowling for Soup) as well as recently opening for Wishbone Ash, Black Tide, Burn Halo.) With the new album coming in late spring, the future is looking bright with touring and a busy schedule ahead. Stay up to date with Sonar Lights and myself for updates. Keep on rocking,

Thanks, Doug McKenna
