It's loud and soft, rough and smooth, sharp and dull, happy and sad. It has the body of a sophisticated wine but the simplicity of a grape. It radiates love and hope for everyone, and it's my music.

Biography

I hopped in the car to drive from Vermont to New Jersey and strapped on my harmonica. During the 6 hour drive I wailed away and I wrote what I considered my first "real song". My passion for songwriting has since grown out of a collage of musical endeavors. I've performed with Exodus, Black Dahlia Murder, and As I Lay Dying. I am writing a piano trio for the Philadelphia Piano Trio. I play coffeehouses and quiet places.
My love writing and performing my music. I've studied classical music for 13 years with wonderful and brilliant teachers. I've taught myself guitar for 11 years. I found my voice. My friend lent me a harmonica one day. Now I feel as though I have all my tools, plenty of inspiration, and a lot of love for everyone. I'm ready to pursue my love for music.

Lyrics

iN a DrEaM

Written By: Douglas T. Smith

I've never liked a single word
I've ever wrote or even spoke
If I hadn't had some damn good friends
I dont' know, where I'd be

Over hills of greenery
I'm off to find some scenery
To entertain my fickle faith
In all life's trip

So I turn some paper, try to write
But the demons in me put up a fight
I keep them here
Cause they're all good friends of mine

I hold this smile
I never frown
Am I optimistic, or in denial
I think i like the confusion I create

Salvation is somewhere here
But my foggy head it ain't so clear
I'm running fast, racing hard
And something appears...

It says, "You, my friend are a dream.
"I am you, and you are me.
"Impossible thought it may seem.
Happiness is in a dream."

So now I know why I can't wake up
And why I eat a million buttercups
And why my lips stretch to my hips
It's a dream

I wonder if what I see
Reflects my health, probably
But I think I like
The confusion I create

So if it's all true and you dream too
I'll meet you there, don't be scared
And if we don't work
We'll know it's cause we dont' want it to

We are just a dream
I am you and you are me
Impossible thought it may seem
Happiness is in a dream

My Practice

Written By: Douglas T. Smith

I don't need no car
Cause love moves me
I have no house
But the world I see
I love this life
For the walk
I don't get caught up
In the money and the talk

I believe in peace
I believe we're free
All we need to do
Is try and believe
I love no god
That won't always love me
And every other person
Individually

So come on everybody believe with me in the change we will see
Happiness is what we all want
A great commonality

I don't need no car
Cause love moves me
I have no house
But the world I see
I love this life
For the walk
I don't get caught up
In the money and the talk
