Doug “Arkansas Razorback” McDonald

A musician’s musician and a Chicago Blues Legend that has played and recorded with some of the world’s greatest blues artists for over forty years. A list that includes Albert King, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Reed, Phil Guy, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Mighty Joe Young, Little Mac Simmons, Fenton Robinson, and countless others.

His outstanding and imaginative guitar work has earned him the highest praise from such blues men as Albert King, Buddy Guy, Phil Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Doug’s amazing guitar technique is founded in a true musical gift and a vast knowledge of music including blues and jazz.
His jaw-dropping guitar solos are matched only by his rock solid rhythm guitar riffing. His rhythm playing has been described as miniature symphonies and his soloing is like a music history lesson.

Doug was born as William Douglas McDonald in Little Rock, Arkansas. This is where he got the nickname “Arkansas Razorback”. He got his first guitar when he traded a bale of cotton for a six string at a local trading store. He used to sneak and play guitar when he was supposed to be picking cotton and honed his craft through hours of wood-shedding. He moved to Chicago in 1958 and has been an in demand guitarist ever since then. He has been credited on recordings as WM. McDonald, Doug McDonald, and Doug Williams (as most recently with the Buddy Guy box set “I Can’t Quit The Blues”).
