Bio

The Boston Globe once said, "Doug Mitchell, songwriter-performer is a refreshing summer breeze on today's music scene." His music really says something. Every time you listen to one of his songs, you hear another innuendo. What seemed so simple at first becomes deeper and more meaningful. Whether you're just listening at the surface or digging deeper into the soul of his music, it feels good.
He is comfortable with his music whether it is in a large university setting or a small intimate private audience. Coffee house, club, or concert hall is home to Doug Mitchell, and whether the audience is 3 or three thousand, everyone leaves a Mitchell performance feeling as if they have been individually serenaded.

Doug Mitchell's unique style of music is a rock/country/folk cross. In addition to selections from his four original albums, he has a seemingly limitless repertoire of over 2,000 songs reaching back to classic folk and constantly shifting pace with contemporary and the classics of Paul Simon, The Eagles, Bob Seger, Crosby Stills and Nash, Elton John and Bonnie Raitt, to name a few.

Resilient and articulate, his performances whether solo, duo or full band are a pleasure not often found in today's musical world that seems to target specific audiences to the dismay of all others.

From the age of 3, when he first turned the "record" knob on the reel-to-reel recorder during one of his dad's folk trio's practice sessions in their living room, music has been Doug Mitchell's passion. So it was no surprise to his family when he left the University of New Hampshire to further explore the musical world.

Since then, he has played an average of 250 shows a year, becoming a staple performer throughout New England, and also making trips to Nashville, California, Florida and North Carolina. A farm boy who has handled horses since he can remember, he became one of the most respected Harness Horse drivers in the area, with over 500 career wins racing horses from the Meadowlands in New Jersey to the summer fairs in Maine.

With the help of his brother, he built a modern, spacious, state-of-the-art recording studio on the family farm. This is where his original manuscripts take form. Here, he has also engineered thousands of songs for artists across the country. He is a talented young man who weaves his many lives into his music and performances.

He has performed with and opened for many seasoned celebrities including Willie Nelson, Jonathan Edwards, Bonnie Raitt, Foghat, Roseanne Cash, The Outlaws, Sawyer Brown, Stonewall Jackson, Motley Crue and John Prine.

Although he would not be considered a traditional country performer, three of his songs - "5 Cent Strawberry Soda" "Love" and "Sunshine Where She Goes"- were selected as Song of the Year three years out of five by the Country Music Association, and two of the albums featuring those songs earned Album of the Year titles. These and many other awards adorn his walls, but nothing matches what the audience and he get from a live performance, whether it is solo, duo or band.

To date, Doug has sold thousands of copies of his latest album "Count the Stars" at his performances and through his website, www.dougmitchell.net. Describing it as "a fantastic CD...a successful project that is bound to make a splash with radio," Roots Music Review gave it a 5-star rating. In between shows, Doug is currently working on a new solo album project set for release this fall. Doug is available for booking as a solo artist, duo or full band "SUMx4" - The band consists of Doug Mitchell (guitar/lead vocals) Steve Organek (bass and vocals), Joe Green (drums and vocals) and, "sometimes," Pete Finkle (lead guitar & vocals.)
