Bio

Acoustic Guitarist Doug Smith is a Grammy Award Winner and the 2006 winner of the prestigious Winfield International Fingerstyle Guitar Competition.

His playing has been heard on the big screen in the recent film August Rush and others including Twister, and his original compositions are heard everywhere from The Martha Stewart Show to Good Morning America.

His association with Mannheim Steamroller includes a book of guitar arrangements of Chip Davis’ Christmas tunes. He has over a dozen CDs to his credit, as well as a performance/instructional DVD and book published by Alfred. He was featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine in August 2008.

Popular originals such as Renewal and Order of Magnitude, clever arrangements such as his medley of Ave Maria/Can’t Help Falling in Love, dazzling pieces like the tour-de-force Stars and Strips Forever, and his dynamic stage presence have dazzles audiences around the world, including Japan and Taiwan in 2008. He is frequently joined onstage by his wife, flutist and vocalist Judy Koch Smith.

Doug picked up a Grammy Award in 2005 along with 11 other great guitarists, for his contribution to the Henry Mancini Tribute CD Pink Guitar, which won in the category of Best Pop Instrumental CD.

In 2006 Doug competed with 40 other guitarists from around the world to win the International Fingerstyle Competition held at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas.
