"Doug Strahm Review"

New music always is an excitement for me. Needless to say discovering a new artist's music is doubly so. Doug Strahm and his new CD "Everything has Changed" is no exception to that excitement. Doug first came to my attention via You Tube and emails I was receiving about his "Leaving It Behind" video. A very powerful and emotional music video which is making a mark on charts and people. I am not going to give away the video's end but do want to share that this music video is on target both socially and with regard to current times. See for yourself here. Do be prepared to react and maybe have a Kleenex handy.

Doug Strahm has the ability to write lyrics which touch and are easy to associate with one's own life and experiences. Of course Strahm had me at track one with worlds like Quarter and Southern Decadence! "Everything has Changed" continues to interest, excite, and intrigue with each track. Deep lyrics presented with catchy melodies combine with just out and out fun for a stellar good time. Doug's vocal talents are a compliment to his lyrical abilities. Strahm weaves all this talent and sensitivity together with music and accompaniment that drives his message, and talent home.

Topics and themes are universal and well understood. "Your Love" is a wondrous song about parenting, relationships and time. "Better This Way" takes a look at relationships 'under the radar' and how we and those in those relationships might feel. I literally applauded "my Religion" at first listen. And Strahm closes it all with "Who's Gonna Get Lucky", a danceable and well known weekend bar night question. All in all, "Everything Has Changed" is a fun and "get ya movin'" experience that touches the heart and lifts the mind.

Doug Strahm's debut CD is an excellent example of what a tempered artist can bring to the art world, and that is a very good thing! Community and social relativity are at an all time high on "Everything Has Changed". Lyrically Strahm has a sensitivity and tongue in cheek ability much like that of another well know community artist, Mark Weigle. Not a sounds like but maybe feels like. Bottom line here, get a copy of "Everything Has Changed" this is a CD not to miss. I think we will be hearing a lot about and from Doug Strahm in the future!

"Better This Way"

Born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN, Doug Strahm grew up in an Italian Catholic household knowing early in his life that he was different from what society expected. He began singing at the age of five to local neighbors for .25 cents a song.

Raised to march with the drum beat of family and social expectations, he married and fathered three children. At the age of 23, he divorced and gained full custody of his children – a 23 year old single father with two of his three toddlers still in diapers.

He spent his early years writing jingles and video commercials for local businesses while he owned and operated a critically acclaimed Italian restaurant. During this time he also was very involved with Nashville songwriting seminars, networking and writing with independent artists and publishers. Many doors would easily open for him when he would show up at A&R & publishing departments with lunch that he would prepare himself using recipes from his restaurant. A shameless bribe but it worked.

He continued to write, work his restaurant, do studio work, raise his children and fathered another son. Things changed later in life and after his last marriage, with full custody of his four children, he met the true love of his life. In October, he and his significant other will celebrate their 17th anniversary.

Strahm penned all of the songs on his debut album, “Everything Has Changed” which is a collection of catchy tunes with memorable melodies and lyrics crafted to hit directly on the emotion intended. A compilation of 10 songs all targeting the social and challenges of living as an out and proud gay man in society today. Additionally he writes, edits and sometimes even films his own video’s.

He holds his partner, Bruce, and his ch - The Newsgayper

"Doug Strahm, Tom Goss, Gianna Nannini, Milan Stankovic"

We start this week with a slap in the face of Russia & co with Doug Strahm's Better this way. The video underlines quite heavily what he sings when telling this story, with an happy end. Yet, it's quite nice and sweet affair. Doug has also quite an interesting bio. While we are at it, let's give them another slap! Tom Goss has written an anthem for Gay bears with a funny video to go with it. Gianna Nannini has released 4th (or is it 5th?) single of her latest success album, In the rain. Also this video has a strong message and story.... Last but not least, Milan Stankovic is back with Od mene se odvikavaj. Nicely flavored with local sounds. Enjoy! - WklVids

"At Last, A Gay Country Hoedown."

Its Better This Way: Doug Strahm’s country song about a man who struggles with coming out.
Singer-songwriter, Doug Strahm, plays a closeted construction worker, in his newest video “Its Better This Way.” Strahm’s character has feeling for and is in a secret relationship with his much more confident co-worker (Chris Miklos). The secrecy, embodied through Strahm’s embarrassment and fear of coming out to his friends, family and co-workers, begins to take its tole on their relationship. Until, at last, Strahm’s fear begins to morph, with the help of his love, into courage. Pushing through some of his friends and co-workers at the local sports bar he embraces and kisses Miklos, finally coming-out to his friends and co-works, who all erupt in a spontaneous hootenanny. In my very humble opinion, country music is certainly, better this way. - The Good Men Project
