Bio

Doug's ancestors came running out the end of a hollow log one day, as did all of our ancestors, and after a few thousand years the genetic code bunched up its shoulders and squeezed out the Artist as a squalling babe. He was born in Kingston NY, just a stones throw and two short years from what would become the greatest love fest in human history (Woodstock.) Doug's family high-tailed it to North Carolina when he was two, just before (as his mother puts it) he picked up any of those "nasty yankee speech habits." Mom is from Georgia, so let's not take it personal, Ok yanks? Raised in the relative obscurity of Charlotte NC, Doug began playing guitar out of sheer boredom at age 20, and within ten short years had written 50 or 60 songs, products of a poetic mind smart enough to realize rock -n- roll was a better gimmick than poetry for attracting girls. At the behest of his friends and family, he began recording and performing in the mid 1990's. Not the most ambitious of people, it was 7 or 8 years before the launch of this project, the first of hopefully many. Doug has been involved in several aborted band projects over the years, including Mad Plastic, Artemus Gordon, and Willie's Heatstroke, and has opened for/sat in with Bessie Mae's Dream on several occasions. He holds a bachelor's degree in spelling from UNCC, which comes in handy for the lyrical part of the songwriting. Following inspiration from the likes of Roger Waters, Neill Peart, Robert Hunter, Joe Walsh, and John Prine, Doug attempts to write socially consious, yet non pretensious acoustic folk songs with a slice of funny now and again.
Doug still lives in Charlotte, still works a boring day job, and still drinks to excess upon occasion to numb the blinding pain and confusion commonly associated with life in the big city. He lives with his dog and cat, sees his daughter regularly enough to maintain his sanity, and heads for the NC mountains at every opportunity.
